I don't get that verdict...

you are allowed by law to make a back-up... but you're not allowed to break the copy-protection to make that back-up?

Bloody hell! I might have a new "Dave-ism" for the "American Justice System" thread...

Why do we let rich old people make decisions about how technology is used? These old judges are so old fashioned...they still use their wooden hammer instead of their finger to send messages on the telegraph.

Cool Hmmmm -

I have the right under fair use to make an archival copy...

CSS usurpts that right...

Sounds like I'm owed compensation.

These companies one day will realize that if you stop one person 4 others will pop up and take their place. Stop going against the people and just be reasonable. I have a copy of DVDXCOPY XPRESS and use it all the time. For those that dont know 321Studios has somehow made it so that you cannot copy a DVD made with their program. Say I own a DVD and a friend wants to borrow it - I make a copy for him to borrow so I dont have my DVD ruined. He cannot take it home and copy it. You must have the ORIGINAL DVD to make another copy - hmmm......so they are trying to be decent and fair. Seems like a step (albeit a small one) to curb piracy - built into a program made to copy DVDs. What more does the MPAA want? The want us not to copy OUR movies, they like to sell them to us but do not want us to have ANY control after the sale. I really get irritated about this issue.

You think something like this could be worked out, instead all the people in the movie studios just want to hose the consumer - but thats their job I guess. I think people and companies with money have to much access to the court system. Civil crap like this clogs our courts and will till the end of time. But consumers will always find a way to do what they want and that will also continue till the end of time - spend your money wisely movie/music industry 'cause I will too.

EDIT: Damn typos - my pirated spell checker doesnt work right (joking)

According to them it's their property, we're just paying to see it. They would LOVE it if they could find a way to charge per person/per view.
