Well if you live in New York, think again.

Take a close look and you'll spot the new Line 56 -- "sales or use tax" -- where New Yorkers are now required under pain of penalty to record the amount of sales tax they owe from all online, catalog or out-of-state purchases that went untaxed by New York.

In previous years, residents were allowed to operate on the honor system, sending in their receipts and a check to the State Department of Taxation. Very few people complied. But last spring, the State Legislature quietly approved the new line over Gov. George Pataki's budget veto.

I noticed that Ohio added a line like that a couple years ago
It doesn't really affect me as I usually just research online
and buy at stores
I did buy my new rig online but that was in Ohio as well so
the tax was already paid

Luckily, I don't have to worry about that. No state income tax in NV.
