| DISPLAY MARKET research firm Meko amplified its warnings about European custom rules that will slap 14% of extra duty on DVI capable displays, and warned the move will both damage the PC industry and put off people buying new machines. Bob Raikes, senior consultant at Meko, said vendors must act together to fight the regulations. He said that the customs guidance meant computer monitors 'must be capable of displaying signals from a computer and no other source' and said the authorities are interpreting this to mean plasma monitors with DVI will incur the duty. The authorities have told him that plasma units with expansion slots, ports or internal space for adding video or DVI boards will also be classified as video monitors. More here.
