VIA readying K8T800 Pro

INTEL MAY HAVE had its run-ins with Via but, with an eye on upstart, fabless Nvidia, it's very serious rival in the chipset market, we reckon the chip giant may welcome Via's upcoming K8T800 Pro.
Via, as we mentioned a few times before, likes to use PRO as its chipset suffix and it seems it will do so one more time.

Via plans to introduce this K8 chipset with support for sockets 754 and 939 Athlon 64 CPU's mainly and, while we are not sure can it work with socket 940 CPUs, we reckon it probably will.

This chipset will be able to support 1000 MHz (1GHz) Hypertransport marchitecture once known as LDT (lightning data transport).

The chipset sampled in December 2003 and it will start its production life by the end of this month, if we understood the whispers correctly.

We are still unaware of any board designs based on this chipset but it seems to us that mobo makers who had already implemented the K8T800 won't have to spend much R&D time to have a K8T800 Pro solution ready.

How it will perform against Nforce 3 250 remains to be seen.

Source.
