| JAPANESE MEMORY FIRM Elpida said it has started churning out 2GB DD 2 memory modules. The firm – motto "The Power of Focus" – claimed its DIMMs are the highest density available for the server market. The modules, built from 512Mbit chips, are packed in a stacked BGA, and that makes the modules only 4.8 millimetres thick. Why is that important? Because it creates better air flow between the modules, and that helps make the DIMMs more reliable. The modules contain 36 .11µ (micron) 512Mbit chips, and the 240 pin DIMMs comply to JEDEC's standards, powered by 1.8 volts. Elpida says that's half the power consumption of DDR 1 chips. It gave no clue as to how much these modules will cost. Source. | ||
