In an EE Times video interviews with Fred Weber of AMD he speaks to multicore K9, and the advantages of multicore specifically the advantages in regards to parallel work. He also talks of the 65nm work, and research down to the 20nm range. Larger caches, multiple cores, more memory control, and more transistors are benefits to these smaller processes.
