ATI's R420 details emerge, and emerge again

I realy like code name for this chip...'LOKI'. To bad they missed spelled it.

Tidbit:
ATI Technologies is expected to enter volume production of its R420 graphics chip core as early as the end of the first quarter, according to local industry sources.

The R420 will be fabricated at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) using a low-k process technology. The graphics chip core is expected to boast 160 million transistors and support an AGP 8x bus and GDDR3 memory architecture. The product name is currently unknown.

Nvidia is expected to launch its comparable product (the NV40) around the same time. Not much is known about the NV40, except that it will also support the AGP 8x bus and be made using a 0.13-micron process.

Cool. The R420 is going to be my next card. As much as I love my 8500XT, DX9 is really cool. Or will this be DX10?

FYI ATI guys, Cat3.10's (final cat3 release) is out. Probably a repost.

8500 XT? Did you mean 9600 XT and your fingers were just off by one number?

8500 to 9600 is 2 numbers Gamma...

And there wont be a DX10 till Longhorn comes out, DX9 is already made for Shader v3.0, we're only on v2.0 GPU's right now...

alas arkangyl It is 1 number if you look closer at what I typed. If his fingers were off by one number (for example, instead of being on the correct key, they were moved one key to the left)

No they didnt, its one of the norse gods, your name is spelt incorrectly

Damn, just when I thought I could beat the raw processing power of ATi's best card by overclocking my Voodoo 5500 from 166 to 230 MHz (total 460MHz) Wait, if it's 420 MHz I can still beat it

I'll just have to get an insane aircooling setup. Proally wont be stable worth a damn and most likely my games will crash at anything past 190 MHz. Oh well I still own everyone here in the videocard department

Unless ATi goes dual with a pair of R380's.......

Honestly it was a name I had picked out of the top of my bald head. At the time I was a big wolverine fan and Xman had just come out. So Logan,patch, weapon X were takin. So I wanted something original and it just came to me "Lokie". SO when I first register'd here in PR, I was afraid that someone might have it and I regs. with the 1212 on it. Later to find out that it was original, I asked Duck to drop the 1212. He was kind enough to do so for me.

I did remeber later on that it was a norse god, but I had my name spelled differantly, wich was fine on my behalf.

There you have it. My origin of Lokie or lokie1212 as it started as.
