Default PCApex representing at CES 2007

CES 2007

Where: Las Vegas, Nevada
Why: To introduce new products, companies, and technology
What: Huge technological convention held once a year
And the important one:
Who: Who will be there on the front lines to deliver, first hand, the latest and greatest from the floors of this massive convention.

PCAPEX, thatÂ’s Who! Volunteers for this mission as of this writing are: GlitterKill, HoJo, and I. FroggyGirl, Feral and FeralÂ’s Wife are not confirmed yet but are possibilities.

2007 marks the 40th anniversary of the CES show. The Consumers Electronic Show (CES) has been growing every year since its first. Las Vegas has even grown with it to hold such a large show. In the beginning the show was held in one single hall of the convention center. Since then it has outgrown that room, forcing the convention center to expand and expand again throughout the years. While the Convention Center was reaching its limits, the surrounding hotels were eager to jump on the business opportunity, stealing the smaller conventions from the Convention Center. Now the show is so large it spans the Convention Center, the Las Vegas Hilton, and the Sands Expo center.

With the so called re-organizing of the Comdex show, the CES has a stronghold on the west coast for the annual convention. This year should be something special, due to the fact that itÂ’s the 40th anniversary. This will be my third show I have attended. My first was a field trip in high school which was very different experience for me and I honestly didnÂ’t know what to think. I donÂ’t even remember the show. My second was back in 2003, I hooked up with DuckWarrior and GlitterKill. The Comdex show was a big success for our community and canÂ’t wait to see what the CES show brings us. Stay tuned for our daily updates and yesÂ….the booth babes.

I've registered and am waiting for my pass, I've asked for and recieved the time off of work and I live here so I don't have to worry about reservations. What more could I ask for. I guess some free samples would be nice.

I would love to go out there (I'll have usable vacation time by then), even if it is only to hang out with those that are going (and already live there) to Vegas. I should be recouperated by then, barring any more accidents, lol.
How much does it run besides hotel accomodations?

Press passes are free but you have to put in for it now. They say it takes 30 days to process and it starts on the 8th. Apply as a writer and all you have to do is link to an article in the last 6 months.

I went ahead and signed up for one although the most recent review (that has been posted yet) barely makes the cutoff. I still have 2 more that I recall that I don't see posted yet.

Any hotel recommendations that won't break the bank and are still critter free?

You're not going to find cheap rooms during CES. Vegas.com Shows rooms at the Palace Station for an average of $120 a night for Sunday through Wednesday nights.

Yeah, all the places closer to the strip or the convention center were crazy expensive.

You just need to *cough* "earn" more comp points. It's amazing how 70 dollar a night mid-week rooms turn into 250-400 dollar a night rooms.

I realized (after signing up... Doh!) that I will not really be able to afford going considering my medical bills, but I am putting in my bid for next year's event.
