To enter you need to make a post in this thread and attach a drawing, diagram, photochop, etc... of a case design you would like to see made or even just a case feature you woulld like to see implemented. It doesn't need to be a work of art or a precise diagram, just something to convey a general idea. Then in three weeks on March 24th we will randomly pick two winners from the entries. Here are the prizes that you will win if you are drawn: 1st: Your choice of an NZXT Nemesis Elite or Lexa Case plus a NZXT T-Shirt and Poster. 2nd: Your choice of an NZXT Trinity or Nemesis Case. 3rd: PCApex.com T-Shirt Good luck to all of you and I look forward to seeing the entries! | Well, here goes nothing... I'm just now starting to get interested in building my very own HTPC, but in addition to that, I've taken more and more of an interest in desktop type models as opposed to a tower. The heatsink/fan combos that they are making nowadays seem to be so darn huge that you would think that it is putting undue stress on the mobo around the cpu socket. In addition, you've always got that heat from the video card going up into the cpu heatsink, too. So, I tried to design a case that could double as an HTPC or as a desktop model. The entire case is made to look like brush Aluminum. The front panel is curved outward. Think of laying a Lexa case on it's side and that's the general shape. The black stripe across the front is black smoke plastic. On the left side of the strip are two or three blue LED lights (one for power and one or two for activity). In the lower left, you have a small flip down door that would conceal the front I/O ports, such as headphones, two USB, and one firewall. With the door open, you have one 5 1/4" bay for the optical drive. The second 5 1/4" bay is for a VFD. I'm assuming most or all VFDs operate on infrared, which is why that horizontal stripe across the front is make of black smoke plastic. You'll be able to operate the system with the door closed. I may have made the stripe too thin and it may need to be expanded. However, you get the idea. Then, you have an optional 3 1/2" floppy. The top view shows how the front panel is curved horizontally. Vents can be altered, but I figured the more vent you have, the more hot air is going to escape. This can be and probably should be backlined with a mesh to prevent things from falling into the case. The side view shows how the front panel is curved vertically. Also, there is a vent for more ventilation. Perhaps a design could be made so you could stealth an optional intake fan on the inside. By making it an intake fan, you would push the hot air that is on the card upwards and out the top side vents. The back panel shows the orientation, plus the inclusion of two 60mm exhaust fans. The bottom view shows the orientation of the feet, in addition to the long open intake vent. On the non-door side of the front panel, you could have two or even perhaps three side by side 60mm intake fans. The feet of the case would be similar to the ones used on the Nemesis Elite; however, they are banded with the same brushed aluminum as the case. For the kicker, I would line the bottom of the feet with black felt. Most video entertainment centers nowadays have glass shelves and that would be a really sweet touch to add to the case feet. I think that this design would make an outstanding case for either a desktop or as an HTPC. Rob

Sure. Don't know what you mean by "thicker", though. The pictures were done in MS Paint so nothing on it is to exact scale. Best I could do since I was at work. Rob

| Hmm, the modeling of the case went much quicker then I thought in the editor, so here are the first pics: Upper left: Inside the case looking to the front Upper center: The right side of the case Upper right: View from the top Down left: The case it's front, leftside and top. Down right: Well, this case has a new and exciting feature, you can place the case on it's left-side, so that it looks like a regular case. Cause of the HDD and CD/DVD-drives would be vertical then, I've created a way to flip the drive boxes to so they'll be horizontal. This is being done by placing on each side of the cage 4 rings, which can be filled on bottom(or left depending how the case is placed) by a little bar and on the other side, the side where the window panel is at, there will be a removable bar all the wide of the case with litle bars to go in the cage's ring once again. This will hold the cages secure and gives an easy option to remove/insert them. I might just draw another picture later to show beter what I mean | ||
