Well here's my entry I finally decided to join this place even though I've been lurking since 2005

Ok, it's supposed to be inspired by the cubic design of Habitat 67, appartments that were built for the '67 olympics in Montreal. Here's a link: http://membres.lycos.fr/julieric/photos/canal/c1G.jpg to see what I mean.
Ok, so basically the case is made of modules containing all the parts of a normal PC, except they're connected using riser cards, power & connection cables hidden inside the cubes. OK, the contest only says it's something we'd LIKE to see, not something that's entirely possible, though in this case I think it's possible to do? Anyway, every cube has it's own fan to keep cool.
Feast your eyes on this!

As you can see, there's already a hot chick slobbering over the case... or the guy who thought it up

That has got to be one of the craziest concepts I have ever seen...but I would like to make one comment that goes along with something somebody else noted about large heatsinks and their weight, the board being upside doesn't help that aspect at all..just my .02...have you tried flipping it over so the mobo area is like a foundation and it looks more true to Habitat 67?

wow ..alota new posters in this thread...

Please dont flame me for my idea... im just improving on another case ....

The case is split by two areas… a top and a bottom, there are holes for the cables to be run through.

On the top part the mb would be mounted upside down. There would be 3x 5.25 slots for cdroms and such. And then there would be 2 or 3 slots for 3.5 one exposed. The rest are hidden. This area with the 3.5 can be removed.

On the bottom part there would be 2 removable hdds cages each one would hold six hard drives. And there would be enough space between the hdds so some air can pass over. The hdds would be facing towards the side of the case.

There would be two power supplies.. one would be included with the case. It would be 400 watts (or more) and be the style of the ones found in a 1u rackmount case. This power supply would have an on and off switch different from the one that turns on the motherboard. There would be no power connection for a motherboard. But 6 to 8 Molex’s for the hdds, so there wouldn’t be so much strain on the main power supply.

There would be space for the user to add there own power supply.

There would be at least 1 120mm fan at the beginning of the case, 1 optional one between the two hdd cages and 1 80mm fan between the 2nd hdd rack and the power supplies. The air flow would be going from the front of the case to the back of the case

On the removable hdd racks there would be rubber grommets so there would be no vibration from the hdds.

The reason for having the hdds racks removable would be for easy installation of the hdds and also for people who want a large case for water cooling (hence the 3.5’s on the top of the case…

Case should be made of aluminum… and be decently thick… so the case is lite and yet doesn’t feel cheap. The two side walls should be screwless.. and there should be front usb and firewire.. (no audio)

Update....

size

Hieght 25" to 27"
width 8" to 10"
Length 25" to 27"

also.. if you made a model that had sound dampening... that would rock too..

It's photochopped to make it look hand drawn, c'mon man, that's not cool at all.....

Whoooooooooooa RedRoze and Feral, I didn't know we had detectives here. God damn nice find, I was liking the "hand drawn" model until I read the other posts stating it was a fraud.

Someone here is a fraud. BUSTED!!!!!!

Damn! My ideas were sooooo good, someone implemented the case as soon as they saw my design!!

That is a valid concern. I wanted to do it this way because I like to have flat tops to my cases - got to have somewhere to put the beer. My idea was to install a spring under the heat sink to shore it up, but that means I must always use the same model heat sink (with a transverse fan) and heat pipes probably don't link being upside down at all. :
So here's a new model, there should be room enough on top. I also made all the cubes the same width-height to make it more "Habitat 67", and also it emphasizes the "modular" idea. The CPU heat sink and the GPU(s) end up in the same cube. (I also changed the texture of the fan grilles, for some reason . The drive bay cubes and PSU cubes could be put anywhere, as long as the connections are routed correctly.
Still not completely plausible, but at least not impossible with the right hardware.

I had some time to work on the case and finished the cage-system.
-
For the ones who don't know it yet:
The case can be placed on its left side to look like a regular case. But then the drives would be vertical, so this is why I made this system that allows you to place the cages on their side to!
-
The system is as follows:
The case has on the bottom 2 bars (RED) with 6 pins each. Each cage has 4 rings (GREEN) on each side, when you place the cage onto the bars the pins go into the rings to hold the cage. Then there are 2 removable bars on the top with the same system to fix the cage. The upper bar could be fixed with a clicking design or if needed a screw...(BLUE)
-
And voila, an easy system to firmly fix the cages.
-
If you need more info, please ask.

BTW: what do you all think of the idea?

You're a tool.
Defyant is a member here too - should've checked huh?
I hoped that you'd actually win something - so he could sue your ass.

Goodbye cheat - don't let the steel-capped boot hit your ass too hard on your way out of these forums.

I think you've earned a red bar from me for what you have done.

Maybe people should sign their designs so they dont get stolen.

Don't worry Nerdz, Everyone here is rather honest - Cheats will get spotted fast anyway and will get the short-shift with the size 12 steel-capped boot

OK, Sorry about the bad pics (will scan or take better pics when I get back from work)
This was the product of my lunchbreak, listening to a bit of slayer
It's something that would kind of fit NZXT's "look" too, I think

This would be my ideal tower case (I have an idea for a cube type case that would fit on top of my desk also - I prefer lower height cases, cubes pack a tower into half the height!!)
This is all a kind of a cross between my project r3furb and some other ideas that I've seen done (or that I'd like to do )

The first pic is the Chassis:
First and foremost - EVERYTHING IS ATTACHED WITH SCREWS - NO RIVETS!!!
It'd allow modders free reign to do whatever they wanted to the case, without having to drill the rivets out.

DRIVE BAYS:
There are only 5.25" drive bays (tool-less) in the case - like the stacker or armour cases, however they don't extend to the bottom. There are removable mirror acrylic panels on the sides secured with small thumbscrews that hide the drive cage holes.

INTAKE/EXHAUST:
ALL fan holes are clean "punched" holes with no pattern - for better airflow and lower noise. They come with very fine hex mesh (like speaker mesh) inserts that are mounted between the panel and the fan - the mesh is bent to sit flush with the exterior of the case - like this:

The case gets air from a 140mm LED fan on the front (mounted on silencing grommets) and has a 140-120mm adapter plate included in case you aren't feeling the fan's colour (or mounting it to a rad)
There is ample space behind the intake for a big 120mm radiator, shroud and fan setup, or the removeable vertical 3.5" drive cage.
There is a 92 or 120mm blow hole in the top of the case, which is raised high enough to prevent the PSU from touching it - the fan mounts to brackets INSIDE the case, therefore no screw holes are needed in the top.

3.5" DRIVE CAGE:
*middle "cube" sketch on page*
This cage holds 4 or 5 (depending on airflow/space) x 3.5" disks mounted vertically using vibration isolating mounts and drive rails. It has removeable mirror panels also - just like the drive bays.
This can be installed directly behind the intake fan for efficient cooling (clips onto the case floor) or mounted in 3 x 5.25" bays (useful if the intake has a rad behind it) The cage also has mounts for an optional 120mm fan when used in the drive bays to cool better.

MOTHERBOARD TRAY / BACKPLANE:
*bottom sketch on page*
Not only is the motherboard tray removeable, the whole back of the case is! (Yes including the PSU mount) This allows you to flip the whole configuration round to the other side of the case - giving you an "inverted ATX" layout (like the Lian Li cases) with your CPU at the bottom (getting cooler air).
The backplate of the case has 2 x 92 or 120mm fan holes (clean punched, with mesh inserts) and tool-less PCI slots as well as 2 x pass through grommets for large diameter water cooling tube.

The Motherboard tray has a large hole in it around the CPU area - allowing easy instalation/removal of third party coolers/watercooling mounts without having to remove the motherboard. Another hole provides space for cable stealthing or routing.
It is connected to the backplate with thumbscrews also - for easy removal

Now - the bezel - the main body is aluminium, with an acrylic door and drive bay blanks.

I had something similar to this in mind for the door - 2 way mirror acrylic:

You will be able to see the 140mm LED fan going with the case door closed. When it's open, There is a piece of clear acrylic behind it to prevent anything getting into the fan. The sides and underside of the bezel have mesh panels allowing good airflow. (the case is on feet too - so air can get up underneath)
The Front panel controls and I/O ports are on top, covered by a stealth flap.

The door is made from 2-way mirrored acrylic with mesh at the bottom also, to allow air to the drive bays (in case someone uses a hardcano drive cooler or similar)
The door and bezel have mounts to allow you to change the way at the door opens, and the door is secured with a small magnetic catch which can be moved also.

The drive bay blanks are made from mirror acrylic also (so if you use the 3.5" bay cage, you can see the LED fan through the door also) with a custom NZXT one (laser etched?) that could maybe light up with HDD activity or power LED's

As for case windows, the side panels are interchangeable - meaning that you can use the window panel on either side (in case you flip the tray over)

Colour scheme would probably be either black / mirror, silver / mirror (with White LED fans ) or maybe blue / mirror.

Of course the best thing about this case would be the DETAILED, WELL WRITTEN instruction manual - with plenty of pictures, so you don't kook anything - as it's a complicated case

*sigh* I wish I could come up with some ideas for the PR Tribute case this easily

MasterP - I still LOVE that case !!!
Enigma - I'd like to see that come to life, it's definatly oridginal.
Rob - very sleek looking
TK- love the HDD storage , finally a case with T-Byte room

And too all you others , all are very good designs , I just listed some on the cuff. Good luck everyone ,I'm glad im not a judge.

**To Spitfire088, very bad idea to steal someones hard work and try and take credit for it. You might just wanna duck &cover. Folk's here dont take to kindly to that kind of bulls**t. ***

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I was the one who designed and did all of Defyant's hard work on that case, not him. Defyant didn't do squat.

You deserve that negative rep.

In addition, you've always got that heat from the video card going up into the cpu heatsink, too.

So, I tried to design a case that could double as an HTPC or as a desktop model.

The entire case is made to look like brush Aluminum. The front panel is curved outward. Think of laying a Lexa case on it's side and that's the general shape. The black stripe across the front is black smoke plastic. On the left side of the strip are two or three blue LED lights (one for power and one or two for activity). In the lower left, you have a small flip down door that would conceal the front I/O ports, such as headphones, two USB, and one firewall.

Rob

Rob, hate to break it to you, but that designs already been done
