| Apex Techie Wannabe | you would use a grate of sorts . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . that would keap it from cloging . . . . . . . but it would either make the fish move around better or they will get stuck to the grate . . . . . . . . .to know you will just have to try because I dont have one . . . . . . & I dont entend to get one. . . . . . .. . example: ( the "." is used for spaceing and to show water flow . . . .mainly spaceing though) ............/| ........../..| ......../....| ......./.....===== ...../.......| .../_____| a quote I think that applies (note this is not a real quote . . . . . . its entended to be funny) "sometimes. . . one person can get the ideas . . .but it takes another to actually do it " Tina Edison . . . right after Thomas invented the light bulb . . . . .you think she ment something by that???? | Leave it to the corporate sector to search the modding community for an original idea and turn it into something you can buy off the shelf. Still looks cool though... Just doesn't have the same wow factor as a homemade job. I've seen some aquariums before and have thought about how to make them on my own. One question that came to mind was, and you mentioned this in the review, was the humidity. Also what about transportation. Not that you're going to take a fish rig to a LAN party, but there may come a time when you HAVE to move the rig. Would it be possible to make the air pump a closed system? have the air intake valve INSIDE the aquarium at the level of the air pocket at the top, and just make the pump recirculate the same air. That may solve the humidity and transport issues. As for spillage... you could make a "reverse bleed line." Just like a closed water cooling system, except your saving the air and letting the water fall into the bleed line. As for the the resevoir idea, and the feed issues for the water line getting clogged with fish... why not take a length of the water tube and drill it full of holes (like a french drain) and actually slide the "holy" tube into the tank instead of just attaching it on the side. That way you have even, low suction around all of the the holes on the feed line for the water cool system instead of one high suction area at the point of entry with which the fish may venture into. Oh, one more thought...actually a variation on the "holy" water tube... instead of making a uniform amount of holes from the beginning to the end of the tube, start with only maybe 1 or 2 holes at the beginning of the tube and gradually increase the number of holes on the way to the end of the tube. THEN the suction would be uniform across the entire length of the tube. Feel free to let me know if I'm smoking crack on this one. I know I don't post that often so I try to make it count when I do ![]() Oh, Extension? The UV paint from Xoxide.com says you have to throw on a clearcoat of laquer to make it permanent. That might take care of the water ruining the paint job. If you've got the will and the way, go for it. Last edited by DeadTom; 21-July-03 at 10:56 AM.. | ||

| DeadTom, Great Ideas there. It'll be a long time before I do anything drastic with mine. I looked into the UC paint, and I do have some clearcoat floating around, that'll be a definate do at some point. Plus, I was just at Wal-Mart the other day in the craft section. I found some Glow in the Dark beads that kids use to make bracelets with. So if you want plastic UV reactive roundish type things, that'd be damn slick, for a buck or two... Pimpette, Yeah, it does look really killer with UV water. Air problem? Oh yeah, the air bubbles. That can't be good in a resevoir setup? Unless you put the barbs on the bottom, that maybe enough not to suck air down there. Hmm... | ||
