Default Swiftech Apogee CPU Waterblock

AntiM has a new review up on a nice CPU waterblock from Swiftech named the Apogee. Seems this block is a great performer in just about any setup.

Check it out here.

I wonder how well it performs against Dangerden's RBX and TDX..

Comparing it to the original storm block would have been cool.

As an APOGEE user i will say this swiftechs tests show the APOGEE performing better (eek) than the storm, and has a much better flow rate. I have seen other reviews besides AntiMs where they directly tested the storm on smaller dies and found it performed better (not real CPUs heat dies) and on larger heat dies it only marginally did better than the APOGEE. On a real world test on that review the apogee performed on par with the storm so i would say AntiM did great only left out one small thing about the Apogee.

on socket 754 boards (Short of Gigabytes boards i found out by experiance personally) that the motherboard doesnt need to be removed because of the AMD standards for the backing plate. If you have a gigabyte board however you need to order a new backing plate from swiftech or another maker, that has screw mounting holes instead of the plastic push pins. The backing board from swiftech costs 2.70 and is made out of stamped metal with a nice sticky insulated pad to contact the mobo.

oh my results with the apogee 267FSB oc witha 2800+ clawhammer at 1.55V 26c idle and 32c P95 after 13 hours on torture test. So i would reccomend the Apogee block as well as thier mcw-60 gpu block that has the same base plate.

Edit: on it being ugly i think it still looks better in there vs an aircooling solution besides the extra mounting holes it has if you got the modding bug you could place LEDs to corrodinate your case colors.

Thumbs up

Those are some pretty awesome delta-T results!

I had heard a bit of a buzz surrounding the Apogee - and to be quite honest was rather intreagued of the preliminary claims that it could outperform the storm block (it came out as I was buying blocks for my first rig)
I'm sold on the versatility of it in regards to it looking like it can be used with most pumps and multi-block configurations... It's just those aesthetics ....
Still, I noticed that voyeurmods are selling coloured acrylic mounting plates, so at least there are some options out there for those who want to pimp things out a bit

Great write up too, by the way
