Post Thermalright SLK-800 Heatsink Review

BigAkita gives you the skinny on the SLK-800. This heatsink is already well known for its cooling capabilities. Let's see what he thought about it.

You can read the review here.

I keep it at default voltage. As you could see by the high temps the chip reached with the lighted fan on the HS, I have to be careful not to kill the chip when doing testing. This keeps the playing field level for the different sinks.

I was wondering if the slk800u has the same footprint as the 900u. I'd rather have a HSF that heavy bolted to the mobo but that would mean bending capacitors on the Asus A7N8X and I'm not too comfortable with that.

The 800U has a significantly smaller footprint on top, but they are the same size on the bottom. The sharp angle that the 900U takes in order to accommodate the larger fan does compete with capacitor's on some boards.

800U
L87 x W56.4 x H48 (mm) - Top, without fan
L67 x W81 x H45 (mm) Bottom, without fan

900U
L99 x W59 x H45 (mm) Top, without fan
L67 x W81 x H45 (mm) Bottom, without fan

I have a 1800+ T-Bred "A" (1.53GHz) @ 1.826GHz (166*11). I Have a SLK-800 w/ Thermaltake SmartFan II keeping this baby cool. It does a fairly good job too. Current temps are as followed:

Ambient: 24c
Case: 36c
CPU: 39c (Currently doing digital video editing and CPU is @ 100% utilization)

Thanks BA. I'll probably go with the 800a.
