One of our forum regulars, CLowN, has submitted a quick guide on changing the LED in the Logitech MX 700. Thanks to CLowN for the nice write-up and pics.

Hey Clown,
Will the same mod apply for the MX500 considering that its the same mouse but that the LED is in a different position

I was curious about a UV LED. Are you sure that would work?

I havent done any mouse LED mods myself, but in alot of the articles I've read on the subject, noted that the brightness (or lack of) can effect the tracking and control.
Great article Clown, but I think I'll leave my mx700 be till some of the $$ signs wear off...lol

Nice work, but that mod works best on Micorsoft ® mice. I have the MX700 and with the lights off in my office i can't see any light being emitted from it. Well I can see light from it when i pick it up , but then the mouse dosn't seam to respond very well when it is upside down buring a hole in my eye! But with the explorer line of mice the led mod is very attractive. I will mod my old (and I mean ver old, bought it back in Jan.'99) explorer mouse.

so ur saying that the intestity makes a difference in the tracking speed (this is kind of a duh) but if u got a super bright u would be able to increase the tracking right? so wouldnt it be best to find the brightest led u can find then shove it in there.

There is a certain maximum speed the sensor can track. So, I'd assume that with the stock LED that light is able to view at the maximum speed. Decreasing the light decreases the overall difference between movements, and that little sensor can't detect after a certain point.

if i remember right from intellimouse mods,if you use too bright an led,it cuts down on the detail that optical mice need to track.

ooookk hold ur friggin horses, im only human u see

any led thas about 2600 mcd's (exept UV i think, you need to go higher...)

for all UV quesings, as soon as i could get to the shack to buy a UV led, i will post back with my results

if you go a bit higher or lower then 2600 you should be fine like +- 400 mcd's or so

if you go more then +-400 there would be a chance of the mouse have choppy feeling to it, thought u can probobly use windows configuration to fix it...

and like i said b4 this WOULD WORK WITH ANY MOUSE
