Default From PimpRig - To PCApex

I have a new editorial up to give you all some more info about why we changed names as well as a look back at the journey that brough us to this point. Hopefully this will alleviate any remaining bad feeling about the name change amongst any regulars having a hard time adjusting.

Check it out here.

As I have said before, I admire your courage for having made this change. In busness, it is never easy to make such a radical move, even one you know is necessary. But anyone who knows you, and how hard you work knows that you would not take the chance if you were not 100% sure. It is my pleasure to be a member of staff on this site, with these people, under any name.

To follow, without halt, one aim: There's the secret of success.

To quote Jonny English:

"Rest assured that although we’ve left behind the jeans, skate shoes and risqué T-shirts of our youth in favour of donning respectable business suits, we’ll still have an edge – our ties will be saying something naughty in binary, we’ll be wearing cowboy boots, and amongst the flow charts and pie charts that you’ll find in our briefcases, there will also be well-thumbed copies of William Gibsons “Neuromancer” and Sun Tzu’s “Art of War”."

That says it all for me. I couldn't have said it any better myself. In a way this community is making a step forward into adulthood.

PCApex will still be the first site I go to on the internet after I read my email. Theres no changing that, regardless of the name.

Thanks Digi for the kind words, my position was completely accidental, exactly like everything else I consider positive in my life. Thanks for helping Gary out in the beginning. Duck, you were important, you were strong, you are gone. We all appreciate the time you gave us.

To the rest of the staff I can say with complete confidence that we have never had a group of talented people working for our site as we do now. I am proud to be a part of this site, and proud to call all of you friends.

Foe, you are now my Ying to your Yang. I must admit that many women thought Duck was a good looking dude, but many, many more men are obsessed with you now that you have become staff. You are beautiful, and not just because of your looks, but because of who you are. I am glad yo found us, and even more happy that you decided to stay.

On that happy note, I look forward to wreaking havoc upon a whole new level of equipment.

No Problem BA....Those words were from the heart bro....Our history is what it is....hahaha
Tips his glass...CHEERS

Just to make clear...since it has been so unkindly brought to my attention....

I didn't ignore putting FOE in my part of that little story...I was referring to PR's past...Not its present or FUTURE....
FOE is more a part of PR's future and present then she was of our past....At least in my humble oppinion.
I respect and honor her ability as much as you do...SO LEAVE ME ALONE...lol....
Ripping me because I didn't thank her when refering to the past is really sad...I am sure she could care less...She more then likely go my point....And I know when it comes to all things in the forums...the least of her worries is what I think...LOL....

It is however nice to see you standing behind your leader...And supporting her so FAITHFULLY....
You know who you are....

Peace out DIGI...

if it wasnt for this sight, all i would use the pc for is games, music, email, pron. This sight has actually made my pc worth something.

Thanx GK and all staff.

Hmm, the change of name from Pimprig to PCApex is certainly not a welcome one, in my opinion. Far be it for me to agree with the masses (as any vet of Pimprig can attest)!!! There was always something edgy and intriguing about "our name". Whenever I would show the site to others, they'd always smirk or laugh at the domain name. And it just made such sense, "Pimping our rigs". The best of the modders didn't just *mod*, they []D [] []V[] []D 'ed.

All of our cute and distinctive nick-names were based on "Hoe"-ified versions of our location, attitude, case mod projects, or other cute memorabilia. It's a sad day when all of this becomes redundant due to a name change to PCApex. Our edginess is dulled by no small amount by this change, no doubt. If nobody else has balls enough to step up to bat and say they dislike the change, let me be the first (as is often the case).

I see people are giving the "Top 5 reasons for the name change", but frankly, I have many for why it should have stayed the same. Here are some:

1) PCApex? Sounds very generic and it doesn't stand out in the least from the gamut of other PC hardware site names. Pimprig? Hell YEAH. You heard it once, and you remembered it forever! People you showed it to, would giggle or smirk or raise an eyebrow, thinking you were taking them to some pr0n site.

2) The fun nicknames. Now I am dubbed "Apex Tech God". Thanks, for certain, but it does nothing to attest to my personal penchant for good airflow in non-watercooled cases (Air-fl-hoe mastah or whatever it was).

3) No doubt there is a fiscal component to this name change...and that, I can of course understand. But how must that have felt, to discard *your baby*, and have to accept a more "politically correct" name? I bet a lot of the old vets are now siding with you saying "great changes Gary" and "love the new name Gary", but weren't some of these the same old vets who used to say they LOVED Pimprig because of it's edginess and rawness and "shoot from the hip" style and "take no prisoners" attitude...? Hmmm...

Well, once again, leave it to me to say things that others probably WANT to say, but can't or won't....but I guess I have always loved the "blunt honesty" of Pimprig.com, and I don't plan to change my ways now, here, on this or any other forum...

I only wish it were the same for Pimprig.com...

you are definitely not the first to voice concern over the name change. Yeah it was hard to change. I always like sticking it to the man... I totally agree that the name stood out. That was both a good AND bad thing. We still are going to be blunt honest man. The content will stay. Just the name has changed. The spirit is still the same.

You were one of the members I expected to dislike the change... I only hope you can support it in the ends.

Coel...you should have seen half the names and slogans I suggested. But I digress.

"...edginess and rawness and "shoot from the hip" style and "take no prisoners" attitude", means very little if no one reads it. Being the big fish in a little pond does have it's perks. But being a little fish determined to get bigger in a big pond takes guts, determination and even more of the attitude that has brought PimpRig/PCApex as far as it has to date. If PCApex doesn't go far, it won't be something as ultimately meaningless as a name holding us back.

people bitch about the name change. ( i was one at first) now i cant tell the diffrence.

yes we lost the custom nicknames... its not to say they are gone, we just need time to grow and with our new mindset i am sure we will find somthing to replace them.

you can do what ever you want to the site, just as long as the atmosphere stays the same. If PCX ever becomes like some of the other modding sites, where people are assholes thats when i will see a change that will cause me to leave..

also some ppl have whined that we dont have an orginal name anymore... we are still having 10 -20 people a day sign up

I'm not too fond of the new name, as I've stated in the initial thread, but it is growing on me. Regardless of how I feel about the new name, I definitely support (not that my non-fiscally invovled opinion really matters) GK in his reasoning for changing the name.

I've also come to realize that most of our problem members (cough Texoid cough) were likely drawn to this site due in part to its name. It's the main reason I gave this site more than a 2 second glance.

But I digress, I really do hope that the changes we've been seeing help us grow.

EDIT: I think now that we've had a name change, we should organize "A Case for Hope II" and see if it helps any. Maybe hype it to the media with a link to a local page about a month before the auction goes live. It's a great cause and I'd be willing to put in something for it, just don't nkow what...
