Default Corsair TwinX PC4000 2GB RAM Kit

BigAkita has a new review up on some new RAM from Corsair which is rated at DDR500 and is a 2GB pair. Looks like DDR500 is quite an under rating for these sticks...

Check it out here.

Nice thourough review as always BA. Any chance you can get them to send me some to test and see if that DDR600 was just a fluke? I might just hafta pick some of that up.

I received an update from Corsair this evening, it seems I have some information incorrect in the review. That particular RAM only comes in Platinum and not also in Black like I stated. Corsair said they will update their data sheet and website to reflect that it comes only in Platinum.

Oh man, the computer is Smokin' fast. The PR person from Corsair asked what OC I was able to hold stable, and I was happy to report it's been at 2.9 for a few days now without a hiccup. I know I could squeeze a few more MHz out of it but I'm real happy where I'm at.

Nice I bet it is. I have heard some of the Crucial Ballistix 2 gig kits running DDR600 @ 3 3 3 5 or so. I believe the same chips are used on the Corsair you reviewed. BA run some SuperPi on that bad boy and post some results.

1M Super Pi @ 29.141 with all background processes (including F@H) running. I never really played with Super Pi that much, how does that score compare?

Hmm. I think you could be running in the low 27s with everything shut off. At 3087MHz I ran 26.688 with pretty much every service disabled.

Default timings or fsb

I was wondering why you always hear about how important the timings are, yet with this ram you seem to love it regardless of its less than ideal timings. Does the increased bus speed take precedence over the tight timings? Great review by the way Big Akita.
p.s. I just ordered that opteron 146 (939) from monarch ( I better get the CABYE version and im waiting for the evga 7800 gtx 512 to be in stock so that i can step up from the 256 i have now

With such a large overclock your gonna lose your tight timings on every piece of ram, not just these. Its basically 2 choices when overclocking your ram...imo. 1. you can have a mild overclock and keep your tight timings 2. you can go for the roof and see what you can make of her and lose your timings but more than make up for it in complete frequency pwnage. Taking an AMD to 2.9Ghz is pwnage and haveing ram that can step it up all the way their, thats the moneyshot.

This is exactly what a Gamer/Overclocker needs!

I am using 4 sticks of BH-5 for BF-2, I need to use a memory divider with my Opteron since it's locked at 10x, the memory won't run much above 250FSB without cranking up the 4v option on the DFI, and that killed my power supply after a week of running at 3.5v

Not to mention it realy bugs me having to use 2t (CPC off) to get 4 sticks to run on AMD 64

2GB of ram 1 to 1 at 300FSB using 1T would realy make my day!

Hi. I have this ram and am wondering if you ran and Prime stress tests to see if the system was stable? I am currently at 2.55 Ghz 1:1 with ram at 255mhz, and it seems stable so far but would like some advice as to how i can achieve a decent OC. should i burn in at 5mhz intervals like the review says?

Jay, I have been using it while gaming, folding, running Prime, and even during an intense game of solitaire, and it has been rock solid. Nary a hiccup at all. The sweet spot for me turned out to be 2.93GHz. I recommend you read some of $Solid$'s 939 overclocking guides and posts to help you out. You will run into a wall with your CPU before the RAM with these sticks, but there are ways to overcome that as well.

Hey Atika. Thanks for the reply, i've actually read the review a bit more carfully and am now seeing how high i can get mine while keeping the cpu near 2Ghz. I also have an opteron 146 CABYE 0540 but have been having a few probs ocing it. I thought i may hav got some ram that didn't have much headroom, but hav been priming the ram for about 1.5 hours for each 5mhz jump and am currently up to 270Mhz, so i think i can count out the ram being the prob. Gonna see how high mine go!

I'm thinking i may have got a CABYE that needs a lot of volts to go high, but im on air cooling and don't want to go much higher than about 1.55v thru it. Should be receiving a 146 CABNE soon that has been pretested to at least 2.9Ghz at 1.47v so will see how i go with that one.

Default stable memory

I was wondering if you tried using memtest 86 on this ram to see how high you could run it before you started getting errors. I am running it at 265 and was error free..but I tried upping it to 275 and I started getting errors. Is this a good indicator of whether or not it will run a stable environment or not? Im new to this OCing thing.

What you have to do is lower your CPU multiplier down to a point where the multiplier times the FSB speed is equal to or less than the CPU stock speed. That's the only way you can ensure that it is the memory and not the CPU causing errors.

That what i ended up doing after reading Atikas review. Looks like he got quite a good pair to be honest, as mine have maxed out at 274Mhz and the other reviews i've seen have also maxed out between about 170 and 180. I've been using SP2004, SuperPI and Memtest. As soon as it became unstable in windows i'd drop into memtest and see if there was anything i could do to prevent errors but it looks like 274Mhz is gonna be my max. Still, 24Mhz OC isn't bad, and at least it gives me some headroom!
