Review: Vantec AVOX Audio-Video Jukebox

That thing looks pretty awesome! Nice writeup, too.

Just a couple of questions:
Do your media files have to be arranged in any particular directory architecture, or will the AVOX find them itself based on the files extension?

As far as music, would it be possible to use this as a stand-alone music player (plugged into powered speakers, of course), or is that pretty much impossible due to the lack of a screen?

Yes it lists the extentions and yes it can play music as a stand alone box...just push play twice and the music will play automaticly. I found this to be not of worth due to the fact that it still needs a power source but you never know. .......And here we are, someone asking that spcific question.....Doh!

Kipman...it doesn't come with a hard drive but a network adapter would be cool.

nice product, vantec takes what I liked about my creative products and puts it right outside the computer in a nice storage/breakout/stand-alone box I LOVES IT! can't wait to pick myself up one of these little buggers. Good review as well...i could imagine a reviewer avoiding the attachement of a hard drive just because they didn't have the parts and you took on the task. keep it up.

Haha, the reason I ask is because I could see a situation at work, where we have a stereo set up to play music, where this thing could come in very handy... Just plug it in to the wall and then into the line-in jack on the stereo, and you've got all your music. Not being able to actually select songs might be a PITA, though

I like the reviews of the Vantec AVOX Jukebox so far. I have a HP Media Center Pc that I use to record all my tv shows with. Will the AVOX Jukebox software play the Microsoft Recorded TV Show file extention dvr-ms ?
