| BigAkita has a new review up on some beefy PC4000 RAM sticks from OCZ. Proof positive that newer games simply love phat sticks. Check it out here. | ||

| I would love to have a 2Gb set that would run 1T. Im stuck with the 4x512 running 2T....but actually I think this review should be taken futher...I mean thats some interesting stats you pulled for how much better more RAM is in newer games. Great review as always, now send me the sticks.. ![]() | ||

| Well Capt, as BA noted in his review, the timings it uses will hurt performance in Synthetic benchmarks and older games. Since I'm a ORB junkie, they would not realy benefit me in my current goals with my SLI rig, early on I discovered 2x256 is what 3DMARK 01 likes, and even 3DMARK 05 does not realy benefit from 2x512 as far as I can tell. My best vid scores come from 2x256 BH-5 with timings of 2-2-2-7 at DDR550 speeds, even my TCCD 2x512MB DDR600 at 2.5-3-3-8 running over 300FSB can't touch it! 2GB is helpfull in PCMARK 05 though, BA showed a promising 23 point gain from 1GB to 2GB with stock settings and clock speeds, the gap would only be larger as the speed increases What realy got me drooling about this OCZ PC4000 is the thought of running DDR540+ in my daily use gaming rig (AMD 643 200+/DFI LP/ X-800Pro) I currently have 3 sticks of ram in (1GB total) to be able to play Quake 4, it does not like to run past DDR480 BA, your years of being at this "Game" gives you a depth and perspective that realy make for a great read | ||

| Solid, it was on this review where I lost my DFI board, a HDD, and a matched set of Platinum PC4800 that GK had sent me to use on the review. I know OCZ has a good customer service program but we went through the PR rep to get them replaced and I ended up getting PC4000 Gold in return. I ain't bitching (too much) though, you know that's just a hazard of the business. This 2GB kit is perfect for today's games as long as you have a decent graphics card and CPU installed. Running 2GB of RAM 1T at PC4000+ speed makes a huge difference on new RAM-Munching games. However, I've GOT to get another set of that PC4800. Dude, I was running benchmarks with 1GB installed at over 620MHz before the meltdown. That was just-freakin'-awesome. | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | I was just wondering when you guys benchmarked the ocz gold 4000 memory was it at a lower multiplier keeping the cpu speed at stock? Becuase I am curious about pc3200 fast latency performance versus pc4000 slow latency performance compared when the cpu is not overclocked. ... Just curious becuase I am moving away from an intel oc'er to amd, and still not certain how to overclock the amd athlon 64 setup and its limitations compared to intel pentiums versus even athlon X2s. As I understand the X2s overclock better? Thanks. | |
