Default OCZ PC4800 Platinum Ltd Ed RAM

We have a new review up on more sweet ass RAM from OCZ. This time instead of offering super low latencies like they did with the Gold Ed. RAM they are offer super high FSB speeds... Would you like 300+MHZ?

Check it out here.

good read and a valid score...i expected just a little more out of this ram then was delivered even on a DFI nF4 board. Still love my BH-5 OCZs but I have to say that with these higher clocked rams that are comming out I'm sure my next ram purcahse will be something along the lines of this.

Combine the price point of the OCZ golds with the performance difference you get a clear answer as to why there is a score difference between the two, so no complaints here. Although i Would have loved to see the voltage pushed through the roof.

Its based of Samsung TCCD chips. Voltage is not needed as in BH-5 or Winbound memory based chips. Anything above 2.85 or at highest 2.9 will cause the memory to fail.

The reason this ram got higher speeds in the scores is because it was runing a solid 1.1 ratio with the CPU which gives better performance as the two run at the same speed causing very few bottlenecks. Still, for the price and the fact that very few people know how to run a 1.1 ratio right all the way to 300 FSB+ its hard for me to recommend this ram also to any newbie or none performance enthusiast, just like GK mentioned I believe.

Still some good stuff from OCZ. They have made a complete 180 and just keep coming out with some sweet products, and I am not talking only memory here.

The Elite is TCCD, wheras the rest of the platinum is TCC5. The entire platinum line used to be TCCD, like my TCCD PC5000 set, but now its harder to get, so they have to charge a premium for it. And yeah, OCZ rocks.

I just installed 1GB of this RAM, and wow I am impressed. It sucks that my crappy motherboard and 754-pin chipset are holding it back. I got it to boot and run just fine with 2-3-6-3 timings, but I would get BSOD's when running 3DMark03. It HAS to be the mobo, because it did that with any other RAM I used that could handle CAS2 timings.

So yeah, after I get back from my 3 week vacation, i'm buying a new mobo, processor, and video card! How does DFI Lanparty NF4-Ultra, A64 X2 4200+, and the R520-series vid card sound?

UPDATE AND EDIT: see this thread for my latest fun with this RAM. How does 250FSB at 2-3-6-3 sound?

Great review, I was always wondering which is better, tight timings or higher fsb. As for certian Mobo voltage limitations, you can always achieve 3.9v with the DDR booster. In any case, you did prove that Corsair is not worth it at all.
Im just wondering if that "Elite Edition" version would prove to be any faster. After all, it can run at 2,2,2,5 to start off.
