Default Aspire X-Cruiser ATX Case

Our own pimp joose has another great review up on another case from Aspire named the X-Cruiser which is a quite attractive and budget friendly case.

Check it out here.

Default Lackluster Type Of Paint Job You Mentioned

Dear Joose,
Is there any way for me to see a better of picture of the case paint job before mod. Maybe the case paint job would be okay for me - not sure from your description or present pictures in the article. Sounds like a really good case otherwise. Still a bit pricey for me personally.
Thanks!

Hi Sara,

I didn't do anything to the paint at all. The only thing I modded was the chimney fan, and added two 120mm blow holes for my fans. The rest is all stock.

The guages rock...and $70 for a case is about as cheap as you're going to get, especially for a case with all these features

I had purchased this case a week ago, and what a case :

1) hardware box was missing
2) Wiring for UV guage missing (probably in hardware box)
3) Top fan was upside down
4) Firewire not long enough (Lanparty UltraD Mobo)
5) Power/restart wires reversed (name tags were switched)
6) Had to cut a hole in front of case for 120mm fan.
7) VERY small opening on bottom of face to feed air to front fan.
8) With Video card and wiring in the way, the ONLY place to fit the HD is on the bottom 2 slots.
9) Every single Picture shows Orange, but it is really darkish red.

How in the world did this case get 8.5 out of 10 ?

Eh - sounds like you got one from the reject pile, PJ got a good representation of it. He rates it on what he has in front of him, he can't know what the general quality will be with one example.

Because I didn't have NEARLY as many problems as you did

In addition to what Iat said, it goes both ways...just because you had tons of problems doesn't mean that everyone will....

It is more then just the problems that I had, it is also the design.

Do you think that the small opening underneath the face will give enough air flow for the front fan(s)?
Well that is unless you plan on keeping the door open the entire time.

I also remember you haveing an issue with the top fan hole being too far back and hitting the PSU.

Even though many people do not use Firewire, I think that they should have at least sized it up according to the most popular Mobos.

And as far as only being able to place the HD on the bottom 2 slots, I guess thats all just personal preferance. I just do not like the idea of the HD being 1/4" inch away from the Video card, nor do i like wires being pushed up against it.

I dont know, I guess that I am just used to towers being disigned a certian way that makes the most sense. On the lighter side though, I do like that funnel design on the side window. I did not have to spend the extra cash buying aftermarket fans for the ram this time.

I'll agree with you on the bezel opening; it could be larger.

As far as the firewire is concerned, the lead supplied in my case was fine; I had no problems hooking up my firewire. I did, however neglect to mention in my review that the FP audio cable was a bit tight...there wasn't much room to route that cable.

Yes, I did have clearance issues with the larger-than-standard Ultra power supply.

I didn't run into any clearance issues at all with my hard drive, and I could have installed it in any bay. Granted, I'm not running a 6800 though.

This case earned 8.5 hats because of it's quality paint finish, thoughful details like a flush-mounted window and throwback analogue guages,"moddability", expansion potential, and PRICE. This case retails for SIXTY-NINE DOLLARS for Christ's sake. It's an amazing value. Don't expect Ferarri performance from KIA pricing.

Pimp Joose, I have an Audigy 2 and I'm unsure of how to make the VU meter work with it. (I was unable to find any connections between the Audigy 2 and the Audio Cable that came with the case) Any ideas? I was not able to find the audio cable connection on my motherboard. (I doubt my Abit nf8-v even has it) Thanks, I would really like that vu meter to work!

Check out the attached jpg...I've circled in red where you need to connect your FP audio connector for the bounce meter to work. The volume knob on the side of the case controls the sensitivity of the VU meter. Look for a similar connector on your audigy card; there should be one.

Welcome to PR; glad you enjoyed the review.

Thanks Joose, but it seems like I'm out of luck. I just recently found out that I have to do some of my own custom wiring with the audigy 2 (wonder why they didn't include the standard audio hook up) in order to get the headphone and microphone jack onto the front of my case, which can be found here: http://audigy2zshowto.blogspot.com/

I definitely won't be going back to my onboard sound just to get the vu meter working but someday I might go for that custom wiring, but even worse that guide was ment for an Audigy2 zs, while I'm stuck with an Audigy 2...The custom wiring might screw up my audigy, so who knows.

And just wondering, are you using on-board sound? ;x heh it's horrible (to me) Thanks again, great community...

Oh and, this is still a great case

Question The Aspire

Hey Joose, I'm on my first build and I have some questions concerning that case. I bought it and put a ga-k8nxp-sli mobo in but I do not know what these wires are that come out of the front panel. I'm familiar with the usb, firewire bunch, also the power switch and that whole bunch, but there is another bunch which consists of: a long black wire with a sort of plastic-ish end, another that starts out with a pair of blue and white wires connected to a pair of green and white, ending in two molex connectors, and lastly, a bundled three power connectors. Can you clarify these to me??? If you want to e-mail me, send to kings-son@REMOVEneo.rr.com
