| Great Review! Tell it like it is....pull no punches. Good graphics. Samsung seems to kill the competition in every review of DDR ram I have ever read (and it is cheap compared to the competition!). The only contenders I have seen compete were using samsung chips....really makes you wonder what OCZ has under those well reinforced heat spreaders ( not with a ten foot pole......) | ||

| Why do you think that they superglue those damn things on? Buy chips cheap, rename and repackage them, then charge a premium price. I don't want to change the direction of this thread but OCZ suc........fuch it, I'll leave that topic alone. That deserves it's own thread. | ||

| I got the same OCZ RAM....:'( Maybe yours was a lemon... I was able to hit the avertised speeds for the RAM... maybe your timing was too high... you didn't say the timming for the Samsung or OCZ... were they the same?? the looser the timing the higher the FSB... Also.. in order for my RAM to run at advertised speeds I have to pump 2.7v into the DIMM slots... how much did you pump in? on the web site it says it's tested to run at 2.8v... if you're not satisfied with it you can always return it.... it has a "lifetime garentee" so just return it.... maybe you got a lemon?? but yea, OCZ do suck, I should've gone with the Kingston hyper X... my bro was able to get PC 3200 from PC2700 too...and at CAS 2 0.0!!!! and kingston was cheaper too. BTW : I dunno if this is correct, but is the formula like this: PC=DDR*8 PC4000=DDR500 * 8 PC3200=DDR400 * 8 PC2700=DDR333 * 8 Can anyone tell me if this is correct? | ||

| Problem with OCZ - they're the HP of RAM - They'll buy anything if it's cheap nuff and they can hide with pretty copper heat spreaders. Though I've heard after a thorough "burn in" they can hit advertised speeds plus a little extra - but it's sad that they need burn in just to hit advertised specs. | ||

The reason he might not have hit 400FSb was because of the voltage. If you look at the post date on GK's original tread it was July02. It was tested on an old Abit motherboard that might not adjust memory voltage that much. The default voltage was 2.55v wich can be seen in a review HERE It was also an old 1.4Ghz Thunderbird core and a G-Force3, in the days before the new N-Force2 Chipsets that unlock CPU's and lock the PCI and AGP bus That was state of the art in late 2001 or early 2002, but that is now an Antique... OCZ and others back then basicaly reworked PC2700 to run at 3200 speeds, same chips. It was done when PC2700 first came out too using "Tweeked" PC2100 Sometimes they never made it to the new "Rated" speeds, but todays version if bought new would probably be of different design, and perform much better... wich is probably why yours works great at 2.8 volts, and probably goes beyond 400FSB too. I spent a few minutes looking at this formula of yours..then it hit me. PC4000=4G/Bs=DDR500 PC3200=3.2G/Bs=DDR400 PC2700=2.7G/Bs=DDR333 G/Bs = Giga-Bytes per second in "Theoritical" maximum memory bandwidth. (Like the test in SiSoft Sandra that shows your memory scores). I think thats were you were trying to say in the chart.... What is with the *8? that has me stumped, realy threw me off... BTW Lately, I've notice a lot of "Old Reviews" that keep popping up on the main page, are they being reposted, or is someone digging up a lot of old threads?
