It doesn't have any rheostat's on it. It uses the same circuitry as the fan controller. Abyss, did you pick up any noise from it when it was turned down?

It got very quiet when turned down all the way, but I still get some noise, after all we are talking about a Vantec Tornado here.

I believe he is talking about a high pitched whine emitted by the circuitry that has been reported in all the reviews of the NXP - 201.

Id have to hook it up to a quieter fan to say for sure, i wasnt able to hear anything like that over the noise of my tornado (even though its a lot less noise, theres still plenty of noise, only so much you can do with a 56 dBa fan)

I can hook it up to a vantec stealth 80mm i have laying around and check it out this week for you. Could be that Vantec has fixed the issue though

You might be right. The fan controller I had was a pre-production unit. There had been enough reports of the circuitry emitting noise that they had to take notice.

What color is the backlighting in the LCD?

THIS THING IS A PIECE OF SH!T!!!
You can barely see the LCD... In fact mine stopped working all together after 1 day (have to see when I get home if it is still dead).

And yes I hear the sound coming from it at low levels. It lacks any programmability and for about the same price the digital dock 5 is a much better buy. Anyone want this P.O.S!!!

I'm thinking of a number from 1 to 10... the first one who guesses the number I'm thinking of gets it.

Sorry to hear that, mine is still working great.

Its very possible that whine is on a frequency I cant hear very well. I do have some hearing loss from my time in the USMC

As for the display, I found it to have a rather sharp and crisp display. you must have gotten a bad unit. RMA my friend. RMA.

abyss or fubar or anyone else who has one how far does the knob stick out ive only got a 1/4 inch of clearance so the door will still close

Fubar.... 2? I got the PCtoys version of this and the USB port on it doesn't plug into the mobo, they expect you to run a cable all the way out the back and into an existing USB port. Does the Vantec version use the mobo header? If so does anyone have spare cables or at least the pinout so I can make my own?
