| Yeah, I'm curious about the price also. When mobo manufacturers first started building raid into their boards, it was almost an afterthought. I maintained my arrays using a separate controller and turning off the mobo raid and achieved higher transfer rates and better stability. But raid on board has matured. Today's Highpoint and Promise solutions that are built into the board are fast, are starting to support Serial ATA, and all support ATA/133. They also do 0+1. I'm not sure for the average power user if the added expense is worth it when you get it on any "good" mobo. It is still necessary to get an add-on card for server applications, but I believe that we will see less and less secondary raid solutions in our rigs. | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | My Aria with 1TB is overloaded with movies, so it's server time.... Built it with on-board Via SATA RADA and Highpoint ATA Raid, but can't see either array (like in the My Computer file listing). I'm just a dummy.... but can you offer a clue about what I've missed? | |
