AMD SELECTS PC POWER AND COOLING'S TURBO-COOL 1KW-SR TO POWER AMD QUAD FX PLATFORMS

Carlsbad, California, USA, December 1st, 2006

AMDÂ’s (NYSE:AMD) introduction of the AMD Quad FX Platform with Dual Socket Direct Connect (DSDC) Architecture has given PC enthusiasts and performance power users unprecedented megatasking capability. Designed to take advantage of Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate, the AMD Quad FX platform consists of two AMD Athlon 64 FX-70 series dual-core processors and supports four (4) PCI-E graphics cards, twelve (12) SATA ports, and can power eight (8) monitors using two identical NVIDIA 680a chipsets supporting dual- or quad- SLI;. With this remarkable new level in computing performance, a reliable, ultra high-performance power supply becomes an essential system component.

PC Power and Cooling, Inc. provides the power supply now used by AMD for AMD Quad FX platforms. The power supply, the Turbo-Cool® 1KW-SR, is built with a single 12 volt rail so that all the power is available to the system, avoiding distribution losses (up to 30% of the wattage rating) and over-current shutdowns inherent in multi-rail 12 volt designs.

The Turbo-Cool 1KW-SR is based on the proven, upscale technology of the renowned Turbo-Cool 1KW, the industry's first One Kilowatt PC enthusiast power supply, introduced in September 2005. Rated for 1000 watts of continuous power at 50°C (1100W peak), the Turbo-Cool 1KW-SR is an efficient EPS12V power supply with clean, stable output in a form factor that fits most ATX cases. Its complete array of output connectors includes quad PCI-E connectors.

The Turbo-Cool 1KW-SR power supply is approved by major safety agencies, carries a 5-year warranty, and retails for $549. It is currently shipping world-wide, and is available direct from PC Power and Cooling as well as through e-tailers such as NewEgg.com and specialty retailers such as Fry's Electronics and Micro Center.

and to think its actually going to need that kinda power with a 500w+ power consumption with only one GPU, think about 4, the power meter is gonna start whistling

So, what are ya saying? Something like this will cost me my first-born, one arm, both legs, and THEN all the income for the rest of my natural life?

Seriously, though... can you imagine a F@Holding farm with, oh, just speculating here, about 20 or so of these little beasties, overclocked, watercooled, and F@Holding 24/7/365???

See this was my issue with a dual core CPU, and dual instances of F@H, one instance running 24/7, average WU output 23 hours, two instances running 24/7 average wu output per console 54 hours, loosing preformance on one core since both are running full blast, meaning that running one instance actually got the work done quicker than two.

In the QUAD FX system, you could run two instances quite well, maybe even 4, being that they run there own memory per chip, own NB and everything, its pretty much two motherboards in one, making what AMD calls, megatasking, very easy. The only thing i can see this setup doing is loosing memory bandwith in the GB/s range, due to the extra mile everything must travel. I still wan to see real world benchmarks
such as four instances, or 4xSuperPI 32 runs.
