Default Press Release: Super Talent Expands Line of IDE Flash Drives

Super Talent Expands Line of IDE Flash Drives

Introduces 16 Gigabyte 1.8-inch Solid State Disk

San Jose, California – October 23, 2006 -- Super Talent Technology, a leading manufacturer of memory modules and flash products, today announced a 16GB solid state disk (SSD) that is fully compatible with industry standard 1.8” notebook IDE drives.
Super Talent SSD’s employ an industry standard 44-pin IDE connector that is pin compatible with laptop IDE drives. Moreover, they have the same physical dimensions as standard 1.8” IDE laptop drives, making them an easy drop-in replacement for a conventional hard drive. But unlike conventional hard drives, SSD’s are built with solid state NAND flash chips, and therefore have no moving parts. The result is a storage device that is far more rugged and reliable than a conventional hard drive with no risk of a head crash. These characteristics make SDD’s superb for industrial and military applications where reliability is critical. And since SDD’s use only a fraction of the power of standard hard drives they are perfect for extremely low-power environments as well.
Super Talent offers these flash drives in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB capacities. These products are available in industrial temperature range and aluminum casing for greatest durability; or commercial temperature range and plastic casing for lowest cost and lightest weight. All six products have already been validated in leading laptop computers, and will be available this month from Super Talent. Flash technology offers much faster access times than conventional hard drives. And thanks to a fast new controller, these drives deliver typical 17MB per second data transfer speeds.

According to CH Lee, Super Talent VP of Business Operations, “Our SSD products position Super Talent as a technology leader in the flash storage market, and show the strength of our San Jose based engineering.” Mr Lee added, “We developed these IDE flash drives specifically for the industrial market where standard hard drives are simply not rugged and reliable enough.”

I didn't get any pricing with that. But considering the sky high price of memory right now it's probably going to be high.
