To date, AMD is the only company to publicly demonstrate an x86 dual-core server solution. AMD has been shipping production samples of dual-core AMD Opteron™ processors to partners since January and plans to introduce a dual-core processor line-up for the one-to eight-socket server and workstation markets in mid-2005 based on the existing 940-pin socket. AMD plans to bring client dual-core AMD64 processors, based on the existing 939-pin socket, to the market in the second half of 2005.

Plans go bad sometimes and that would suck for alot of us!

Anyone know if the AMD64 dualies are going to stay socket 939's? I'm thinking of upgrading my 754 to the 939 so I can use SLI and dual channel memory, but I don't want to upgrade now and have the dualies use a different socket? Also, are they still going to use DDR, or will they make the jump to DDR2?

Default Yay!

Well...I certainly hope they're looking for product testers!

Hopefully AMD will continue to keep its prices low(er)...even at that I'm sure a dual core is going to clean my poor college ass out. I'll probably sell my own body to buy one of these little chips. And the box to go with it.

In answer to the questions above, the Athlon 64 X2 CPUS are designed for socket 939.

Why should I check the date of the first post on a page?

I do generally check the dates of the last post in a thread.

The post before mine was posted on the same day, what, you gonna shoot me for not checking every single date on every single post

Well I was trying to say in my very drunken state and I am not much better off this morning with a hang over but. I didnt like being burned for something I was mistaken on back in 28-March-05, 07:07 PM. Honestly it was a long time ago before any information out. And the only information i had was nevpayns link that was to all socket 940. Or at least thats all i can remember comparing was the dual core just being under par to the 4 xeons. But its not like I was wrong there is dual core opterons and those x2's for 939. Everyone wins.

But i usualy pride my self on the information I know since this is all I do when I get off from work is lurk the internet and read about computer hard ware. I hate being wrong lol.
