I wonder whatever happened to that SETI distributed processing project, too? That was the popular one before Folding@Home became a household word....wonder how many alien signals they found?

When I asked my friend to F@H, he basically laughed at me and told me this is all a scam.
If it's so simple to cure diseases and cancers, then why isn't EVERYONE with a computer folding?
I mean libraries, businesses, and tons of other places can fold. There is a huge library by where I live that has about 100 computers that can easily fold and crank out mass WUs, yet not one of them is folding. I just found out about folding in January on this site.... I have never seen or heard of folding in the 10'o'clock news.... Why has basically no one ever heard of F@H?
To me F@H is something still in BETA. Of course I'll continue to fold, but just would like some questions answered.

Obviously I *do* care, otherwise why would I bother posting this, and requesting someone--ANYone--to enlighten me and show proof of what folding has actually accomplished? I have an objective, scientific mind and I may question things, but I will accept fact when it's proven, even if I previously didn't believe it. I'm man enough to accept when I've been wrong.

Good point. I wonder if it might be more beneficial for people to sell their extra rigs that were only devoted to folding, and the money they saved in electricity bills, and donate it directly to the Cancer Society instead?

As for me, even the HOPE of helping to find a cure is enough for me to put my all into this project. So many people are too apathetic in this world, until it hits home. I've got an aunt with cancer in her lymph nodes right now and a 4% survival rate. My grandfather died of cancer. My g/f's last boyfriend died of cancer. My mom had to have a hysterectimy because of ovarian cancer. My ex-wife's sister had to have one at 23 years old and can now never have children. My uncle ronnie died of a brain tumor (cancerous). My grandmother on my mom's side has alzheimer's. Should I go on?

What does it hurt to do the project? People sit on their computers all day and surf and argue and download music and look at pr0n and on and on and on. What harm can come of using it for something GOOD for a change? Half of us leave our computers on 24/7 anyway, I know I do.

Lost some machines awhile back but still plug'n away.

I really can't. With my overclocked 1.8 ghz @2.3ghz, it wasn't stable...so I stopped using it. And, it crashed my computer and reset my overclock values...so I had to slowly overclock again back up to 2.3...i think i saw something warning about using it on overclocked cpu's.

If it's crashing, then that means your overclock is unstable. I'm running the 5.04 BETA with my Opty @ 3Ghz and it simply won't crash for me.

I would try tweaking your settings in your overclock, or try simply lowering it down a tad. F@H doesn't "reset the overclock values", your BIOS does. It's a safety feature for those instances when an overclock gone awry won't even POST.

Plus it keeps my basement warm in the winter
