Every time I install a significantly-sized program ( eg: modern 3D games, Windows Updates etc..) I'm proud to know my PC acts about 50X the speed of the new E-Mac's I'm stuck with in school.

Default defrag is good

i defrag atleast once a week, but not daily, unless i get really bored. my games (doom 3, diablo 2) run smoother once i defrag and disk clean up.

I have set an automatic defragger on the systems i manage and have experienced increased stability with regular defrag and think its worth it. Wanted to share these interesting whitepaper links in this discussion.

Ok I took your advice and made my work laptop really really clean, so that it would work faster.
now the darn thing won't even turn on...

... maybe it didn't like the fabric softener, or maybe it was that color safe bleach alternative.....

Well, as far as spring cleaning my system, it really takes place on a few different levels.

I use Privacy Eraser Pro to basically do an in-depth disk cleanup, including temporary internet files/browser cache, search history in browsers and in Windows, etc. This is done when the computer is booted, every hour that my computer is on, and then again when the computer is shut down.

I have a full system virus scan take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at a specific time, which changes based on my sleep schedule for the week or something.

But, as far as the topic of the thread/poll, I usually try to defragment every week, but it ends up turning to an average of bi-weekly or around there. So, that was my vote (bi-weekly).

I defrag about once a month = the windows side..
I don't have to defrag the Linux side... (and poeple wonder why I prefer it.)
As far as getting rid of files, I probably do that about everyweek.

I clean my system at least 3 times a week, mainly becuase i'm always installing/uninstalling so much stuff. I clean out the temp files daily and try to clean the registry once a week. I just can't stand to wait for anything so my system has to be as clean as possible.

Amen to that. I've got an image of my primary drive just after a fresh install, and all my driver installs. I update my image every couple months to keep my microsoft swiss cheese updates current. Aside from that, I defrag when things get too slow and I don't feel like reinstalling. Meh, the wows of being lazy sometimes.

I keep my system pretty clean though. I usually run it all once a week at least if not more, depending on much data I've been pushing around.

I downloaded the Freeware Version, it dosent let me "Set it and forget it" Says "BUY ME NOW!"

I guess I just have to have it run when I have "time".

Anybody else get this?

i dont really defrag that often, mainly because i reformat so often. my reformats can range from a few months to a month in time in between. lately though iv had some problems with my computer so its up to about 6 or 7 this month...
