I'm with GK and BA, I want in on it.

Sorry BA and GK, It's a deal that intel does for people who work for stores that sell their products. In this case my friend works at BestBuy and doesn't want it since he just got the one from last year built (3.4ghz P4) so he's gonna get it for me. So would you guys recommend it over a 3200+ venice core? I'll be heavily overclocking either option.

Thanks,
Dead_Man

If you can get that deal for $215 and instead decide to go with AMD, I will virtually smack you.

I'm saving up for one. It's just great to be able, for instance, to encode a dvd & still be able to work like it isn't
happening.... will be far into 2006, though... I'm still very happy with my current system.

By that time new sockets from both Intel & AMD will have arrived...

Dual core CPU, SLI mobo, and a pair of PCI-E cards are the planned upgrades come tax time.

I'd like to get my hands on an X2 proc, DFI or pretty good OC'ing board, and a pair of 7800GTXs, but again, bills and kids and wife will have their priority on the "to spend on" list as well, so probably will have to compromise somewhere...

If I get really lucky, a strong SLI-ready PSU as well...

Time will only tell as to how they will hold up, but the Enermax I just reviewed was as stable on voltages as I have ever seen. The over $200 price tag would prevent me buying it though unless I had a lot of cash at once on top of the mobo/cpu.

I'm trying to save up for a 4400+, 7800GTX, a SATA II HDD, and new DFI mobo. Yeah, I know that's a whole lotta saving but I'm about halfway there. Guess I'm going to have to start hitting Bingo Night down at the local Methodist Church and pimp myself out to the ladies... again.

I'm waiting for the tech to catch on more.
The games and apps will come in the meantime.
So while I'm waiting I'll start saving.

Not to go AMD w/ the Dual-Core would be like sitting on the edge of sanity.

Well my s754 Clawhammer and X800XT are doing me just fine for now... and well into the next year or two. But when I do upgrade, it will definitely be to dual core... and probably to a socket M2 dual core at that. But for now, I'm perfectly content with the rig I've got.

i'm mostly waiting for the cost to dome down. My current dual Opteron workstation board doesn't support it, so kinda have to live with what I've got now.

Granted, I can always use more processing power, but it would probably work out to be slightly cheaper if I built another one of my workstation rig with a downgraded video card.

It's definitely something to keep an eye out for, but there aren't any definite plans with any sort of time line to make that happen.

I've already made the switch at work to dual Opteron 280s but the system had nowhere near enough power to deal with the load. In the end, I'm switching over to a workstation equipped with dual Power5+ (dual core) CPUs, 32GB DDRII, running on the AIX operating system, and a purpose-built graphics card loaded with 2GB of memory. Storage is on a RAID10 15K RPM SAS array. I haven't had much time to "stretch its legs" but I'm certain I'll have a chance soon enough as I received the responsibility of heading a new product development team today. At home, I'm likely to stay with my dual Opteron system and the S478 P4 systems that I now principally use for data management until AMD brings the next generation of Opterons to market.

I'll be installing a 4400+ today. Curious as to how it will benchmark. I get to find out since I need to get busy on a review right away.

Nice. You wont be dissapointed. This thing rocks. You should be able to clock to around 2.7 on a DFI or ASUS NF4 board.

According to the Fry's Electronics sales ad in my area today, you can get a Pentium D 820 with board for $259.99
