wait, for the whole BTX look can't we just flip an ATX mobo around so the I/O ports are on the bottom and the PCI / AGP ports are on the top? Anyone done that? It would put the CPU near the bottom of the case which is in-line with the intaker for most cases airflow, also cold air sinks therefore the cooler air should be nearer the CPU, in general that seems alot like BTW without altering the motherboards at all.

Updated the BIOS to 21 if its revision 2.0? Because they should which mode memory is in when ya boot. Also, cpuz will also show which mode its running in too.

Ark, think about how you would plug your monitor and peripherals and stuff into. You could do it, but, IMO, it'd look like crap. Plus, I'm not sure if the screw holes would line up.

its was a mod idea moreso than an actuall marketing thing.

Also with BTX can't they just move shiz around so that my case doesn't flip? I can live with teh rest..

If they would just move the CPU down on standard ATX boards they would drop temps 2 or 3*C, did mobo designers forget the law of convection?

They weren't concerned about heat when the current ATX standard was laid out. Most CPU's at that time weren't even actively cooled.

Heh, I've got an old 386 in my drawer that didn't even use passive cooling, just a really big proc to cool it.

Wouldn't gigabit home networking be really expensive? I am perfectly happy with my network right now. I thought gigabit networking was for the huge servers and such.

Actually, the first comp I ever overclocked was a non-cooled proc (i think a 286) my friend had. Was my first time soldering too...I think we got it to post at 166 one time...then the processor melted. It was so cool. We took it out of the case, and had pieces of paper we were fanning it with to cool it. I think we should have fanned harder...

I really want to overclock my P2, but it's wrapped in a giant black heatsink/lockbox that compaq put on there specifically to keep ME out
