Well after seeing the latest reviews and benchmarks, I will happily go over to a Phenom platform after Christmas if the predicted price drops kick in.

Id love to move back to AMD, so selling my current C2D setup, id go with a Phenom (2.6Ghz model), decent 790FX board and then two HD38780s in Crossfire if they go down in a price a little too.

you're welling to sell your C2D to get the new Phenom.... you know that the C2D still win most of the benchs vs Phenom...right?

I will probably buy Phenom myself if prices is right in next spring but only because i dont have much cash to put on an PC so i always buy the lowest price i can get.

but if, like you, i would already have C2D i would stick to Intel & probably overclock it or just buy another C2D clock higher or an C2Q.

I don't care, I want AMD and Crossfire.

Am however considering going quad next summer. just not sure if I'll be going down the amd or intel road yet!

I just got an AM2 setup not for phenom though.
I usually build my PCs based on cost and performance, this time AMD won the cost/performance test.

Hopefully next time i can get a quad core intel.

ive always been an AMD fan, though from what i have read online about these Phenom processors it seems that they dont perform all that well compared to Intel's quads, even the cheapest intel Q6600 beats AMDs phenom on most benchs i have read,,

my next upgrade is probably gonna be built around a phenom CPU, but i will be waiting for a while first until i see if there are going to be any AM2+ mobos that will be supporting SLI because i plan on buying another 8800GTX as well to run them in SLi, but atm all i can find is crossfire AM2+ boards,,

i dont think it would be worth buying a phenom to use on an AM2 mobo, because u wont get the full potential out of the CPU if u do this, as it wont use the hyper transport 3.0 or cool and quiet 2.0 functions,, those will only work on an AM2+ platform,,, im sure u all know this already though...

As I read more and more reviews of the Phenom, the possibility that AMD will fall back into favor with enthusiasts looks like a pipe dream. There is no way that they can compete on a price vs performance level.

I'm kind of sorry to make that statement since I was one of the early adopters of the Athlon, and I truly enjoyed rubbing my benchmark numbers into Intel users faces. I had a K6, but once the Athlon hit the market and I scored my 1400, I felt like I was king of the processing world. That feeling only got better with the XP and X64 processors. Then the Conroe hit...

I have never been a tried and true fan of any particular technology, I always go with the price/performance leader. Intel currently has that title and doesn't show any signs of letting it go anytime soon.

my flatmate has just went out and purchased an Asus P5NE SLi mobo and an Intel Q6600 CPU, and i am extremely impressed with his new setup,,, he also has the same graphics card as i do (asus en8800GTX) and without any overclocking he gets a 3d mark of 11,000+ which is pretty good IMO.

so i think i wont be building my next rig around an AMD quad, im definitely gonna make the switch over to intel once i have the funds,,,

also i read somewhere that there has been some ppl have been experiencing problems with certain AM2 motherboards where these phenom chips arenot compatible, even after flashing their bios to the latest version,,,

so if anyone does plan to go buy an AMD quad i would definitely get an AM2+ mobo just so that u know its gonna work without any problems,,,

I just read the review on the Phenom in Maximum PC and damn! It sucked! It got smoked by the cheapest Intel Quad which is less expensive than the Phenom. If AMD doesn't get it's collective crap together soon we may lose the only viable competition that Intel has. I don't want to see that happen.

yeah! it's not looking good for AMD for awhile now & i fear that it maybe the last year of AMD before they got to go...away...?

Intel is also coming out with the new C2D & C2Q at 45nm wich will be well price & good overclocker...

I just finished my finance degree so I am particularly fascinated with stocks, and Intel has been one of the great rebounds by a blue chip in the last few decades. 3 years ago, AMD was killing them, taking market share left and right and generally embarrassing them. However, Intel did the impossible and made a complete turnaround, introducing the Core2Duo that was superior in every way to the competition and putting together an altogether superior product. Considering that at the same time AMD's claim to fame was a questionable, at best, (from a business standpoint anyways) merger with ATI, and Intel simply fascinates me.

A year ago, I would have said "whoever has the best product," but now I voted Intel fanboy.

Based upon this last quarter, are you still so enthusiastic? Their actual profit fell far below the expected which hit them hard in the stock market. Their loss drew down a lot of other tech stocks.

u should be able to o/c that CPU pretty good so long as u have a decent cooler...

I wish I could take back my vote because as of christmas I've offically moved over to the LGA775 camp =P sorry AMD! But in all seriousness, I do still plan on putting together another AMD box when I have the money for educational purposes =)

LOL. I'm still running a socket 754 with AGP.

I originally went to AMD because I thought true dual-core was better than HyperThreading... then I still thought AMD was better because they did 64-bit chips the right way and Intel had to play catch-up yet again...

However, when it comes to graphics cards, I got no love for AMD/ATI because their Linux drivers are seriously lacking compared to nVidia, no other reason.
