When I set mine up and powered on, the battery LED meter was on 2/3 charge, but I always charge up full before I play with anything, ie: new home cordless phones, et al... Full charge was done in about 1 hour (I had other stuff to keep busy with, so it could be less than that.)

That said, it have only needed to full charge mine twice (aside from the initial charge I did on my own) since I bought it (1 day before I posted the review), so it depends how much you actually use it...

When I charge up, it usually goes on the cradle when I decide it's time for bed. The next AM when I wake up, she's fully charged and waiting, so over night, but probably only a couple hours left alone...

Started using the MX-1000 and have a couple of thoughts. One thing I don't like is the placement and feel of the forward and back buttons on the left side. Unlike the 700, the buttons on the 1000 are rough on top, and the whole forward and back setup is set about a quarter inch too far back. With the 700 I could go forward with the tip of my thumb and roll back with the joint in the thumb, but this is farther back which involves moving my hand a bit.

What I do like the the design, my hand melds to it perfectly. Even thought the 700 was comfortable, the 1000 surpasses that. I like the side scrolling feature, but won't use it that much. What I will use is the quick up and down scroll buttons that allow you to get to the top or bottom of a web page very quickly.

The response time is amazing, I actually had to slow it down a notch from my normal settings. The mouse goes to sleep in about a minute without use, but wakes up instantly without lag.

All in all I am very happy with the MX-1000. Too many people fail to realize that the only way to provide input to your computer is through the keyboard and mouse, which is why I am never loath to spend money for a good interface. The MX-1000 is very, very good.

So, you have a spare 700 that needs a home now?

Clown, it's not worth the upgrade. I purchased the mouse so I could move the 700 up to the wife's computer to free up some space on her desk (sorry Slider). I'd recommend keeping your 700 until it dies or you need another for a new rig.

I got my MX1000 today as a Xmas present. I agree with BA that I wouldnt "pay" to upgrade from the 700 to the 1000. Actually I hate the hokey ass scroll wheel on the 1000 but I like the idea of the battery meter. Plus it was a Xmas present, they are supposed to be frivilous - some of them anyways.

I will be parting with my MX700 but I have to see if anyone in the family wants it first.......if not pimps here get first dibs.

A few mouse comments, but not relating to the reviewed mouse...

That cheap Diablotek mouse I modded in the project worklogs section, I have some interesting observations. It's a cheap, $13 mouse with a 5mm blue LED lighting up the scroll wheel, and a 3mm white LED lighting up the clear red plastic area at the back. More info here:
Diablotek-branded optical mouse

At first, I thought I'd done something wrong when I modded it, because when I plugged it in (PS/2), it moved erratically, as if it were on a surface it couldn't read properly on. I tried several surfaces and even a high-quality mousepad, with no real change. It performed the same on different machines. I tried downloading & installing, then ultimately uninstalling, mouse driver utilities, and no difference. Played with settings in the mouse control panel and no change either.

It turns out that some mice behave really badly when the cable connecting to it, at least the part of the cable within a foot of the mouse itself, is not allowed to move freely. That's the only bad problem I see with this cheap mouse. If that cable has nothing to block it or get in its way when you move the mouse around, it performs fine!

Myself, I'm a plain-vanilla kinda mouse guy. But I have an innovative mouse design up my sleeve, maybe once the "Ultimate Case" becomes reality, I'll explore that invention next.

Good review on the mouse!

One thing that does amaze me, and is an improvement over the MX700, is how long this thing goes between charges. I purposely did not put it on the charger to see how long it would last, and after two weeks I still had two bars. I broke down and charged it cause I didn't need it to die while I was working on an article.

I dont know about you guys, but when I bought my mx700(in the duo), I was worried about wireless lag. And the mx700 does have wireless lag. After using my used and abused mx500 today I can really tell. Can someone tell me if the mx1000 has any lag?

Good review on the mouse!

Its really a decent mouse. I use it with a crap mouse pad and one of those mouse bungie things for gaming (for everything else i use my trackball). I think i got like 3 of em for $18 or something like that at xoxide (they're 3/$15 now). The ones i got have the colors inverted from yours, black on top.

There are reports from some users that they had lag, but when they swapped the mouse out for another MX1000, the lag went away. The general consensus is that there was a revision done to fix the lag problem. Most people don't notice any lag at all, and even the most finicky say that it is so minimal that it is hardly noticeable.

I barely noticed any lag with the MX700, so I wouldn't be the best one to give a personal opinion on whether or not mine lags.

They will have to pry my gun and my MX700 out of my cold dead hands.

Damn my MX700 has a ghost in it. It moves whenever it wants to. So I guess MX1000 is the one.
But I don't game so should I just get another MX700??? HELP

Kind of happy to see this one back up near the top... Good to hear the testimonials, for and against, too...

After I sold my MX1000 a couple months ago (how's it doing for ya, vf1000ride?), I got an MX518. I love all the bells and whistles it has, but I still miss the heft and freedom of the MX1000...

I have been using the MX1000 since Christmas of last year. Have never had any problems with it.

The thing that amazes me is the battery life of this thing. I'm on the computer at least 5 to 6 hours a day and I have only had to charge it once every 1.5 to 2 weeks. There have only been a couple times where the mouse has died on me, since I don't charge it regularly every night, but when I have to, it charges right back up in about 45 minutes to an hour.

When I first got this mouse I remember trying it on every surface around my desk and it worked beautifully. However, since I own one of those 3M mousepads I always use it on that surface.

The only mouse that I can think of that I would want other then the MX1000 would be the G7 with its in game sensitivity settings and laser responsiveness.

GrandpaNoob72, the mouse is doing great. I love the thing. It took a little while to get the sensitivity set to where I want it but other than that it is flawless. It will run for at least a week without recharging and has no trouble with the fake wood grain pattern of my desk. It is certainly better than the mx-500 it replaced.
