| Logitech MouseMan Traveler After the horrible tales I told of the Powmax Clear mouse I thought I would write a review on a mouse you might actually want to use. I obtained this mouse from OfficeMax for roughly $30 USD. Specifications (from Logitech's website) • Compact and lightweight • Optical precision on almost any surface: no ball, no sticking, no cleaning • New optical sensor up to 800 dpi delivering twice the speed, twice the accuracy • Fits comfortably in either hand • Three buttons • Convenient scroll wheel • Protective carrying case included • Five-year warranty Packaging The mouse comes in a retail box mostly comprised of clear plastic. Through this package you can clearly see the mouse. This mouse comes in one of the three following colors: purple, silver and blue (very light). I purchased the silver version. Contents After opening the package, you will find goodies of all kinds. In addition to the mouse you also get: drivers disc, USB to PS/2 adapter, leather carrying case and an extension cable. The leather carrying case was a big surprise and is well made. It features an embossed Logitech logo on the front and is held closed with the aid of Velcro. The material is very stiff and will protect your wee mouse well. The extension cable was another item I was glad to see. The amount of cord attached to the mouse is very sufficient for use with a laptop, but what if you want to use it on a desktop machine setting on the floor. This is where the extension cable comes in, plenty of extra length available if you need it but not in your way when you don’t. The adapter and drivers disc are your standard issue pieces, nothing spectacular about them. The Mouse I’m a big fan of the metal look. The finish on this mouse is brushed aluminum, with black plastic filling in the necessary gaps. Starting at the top you can see there are no “separate†buttons. The metal piece forming the top of the mouse (also continues down the front) is one solid piece. When you depress the mouse buttons you’re really just flexing this metal cover. Size is a big concern when purchasing a mouse. If you have big hands (and I do) it’s very hard to find a travel size mouse that’s usable. I find this mouse to be very comfortable, as does my wife, who has very small hands. She prefers this mouse to any other in the house, so if you’re searching for a primary mouse for your desktop and you find other mice too large, look into this one. The buttons have a very precise feel and are large, making them easy to manipulate. The precise feel gets carried over to the scroll wheel as well; you can feel every movement. Probably the only bad thing I can say about this mouse is that the scroll wheel is very narrow. It’s roughly less than half as wide as the desktop mouse I was using for comparison. This didn’t affect the use of the wheel in my case, thanks to the very rubbery texture of the wheel itself. The mouse cord, as well as the extension cord, is very thin. This is a very welcomed feature for those of use using this mouse primarily with a laptop. The USB connector on the mouse cord and the extension cord connect firmly, no chance of your mouse getting disconnected. Testing Simply plug this mouse into your computer and your ready to go. You will need to install the drivers and Logitech MouseWare software to gain access to some of the settings for the scroll wheel and buttons. The software installed without a hitch. The mouse tracks very well on most surfaces. In addition to a mouse pad, I have successfully used my leg, the arm of my chair, my shirt, the laptop itself, a notepad, a chunk of wood, my desktop – I could go on and on. This mouse will work on almost any surface you encounter in your travels. I have had this mouse for almost 8 months and it has yet to show any signs of wear, the buttons are still as crisp as they were when it was new. The fact the most used surface of the mouse is metal will keep this mouse looking and working good well into the future. Conclusion If you need a mouse for on the go, or if you have trouble with larger mice, then this is the one for you. Great looks and great performance make this an easy choice, add in the extras (case, adapter, extension cord) and you’ve got the perfect package. The only downside with the mouse being the scroll wheel and even that is quite negligible. I give this mouse a 10. The Loot (Good) Great styling Great performance Small and easy to carry Metal finish makes it durable 5 year warranty Walking the Plank (Bad) Narrow scoll wheel 10 Pirates out of 10 | ||
