Default 9600GT Benchmarked!

And boy does it look tasty. Definitely looks to be a proper midrange part this time around

See, now this is why we need AMD. After over a year, Nvidia seem finally ready to put out a compelling midrange part. And hopefully it'll be the death of all those "shall I get an 8600GT" threads.

Meh, doesn't look that great... 3Dmark increases were the same as they normally are (for each generation ie a doubling). Better be cheap.

Yeah, it really depends what price they come in at. If it's around £100 then fair enough, but any higher and it's going to start encroaching on the bigger guns.

Anybody know what AMD's got planned? I've not heard much of anything from them lately. Can't wait to see what the 98xx series looks like though.

IIRC there just doing an X600 (ie a repackaged 9600) style card in the form of HD36** which will just be 55nm HD2600's.

Found some info! Looks even worse! Poor AMD.

Now at under $200 the Radeon HD 3870 is just as good of a buy as the 9600 GT - in some of our tests it proves to be faster, while others paint it as a slower card.

Seems the same day Anandtech publishes a official review AMD also drops the 3870 to $190 It beats the 9600GT in Crysis, and thats the most GPU hungry game on the market. (and fair to both GPU's as well)

They don't look that great tbh. I mean there selling for ?130. I got my HD2900GT for ?55 and I was expecting the 9600GT to be a decent upgrade for a similar price (8600GT's were only ?75 when they came out).

We need some good mid range stuff again! Come on ATI/NVIDIA, forget all this Triple SLi/CrossfireX stuff and invest in some decent midrange tech again. I remember in the days of the 9500PRO the mid range was amazing value/performance, and NVIDIA had a similar card in the 6600GT.

PS Pound signs came out as ?'s for some reason?

Only if you can find it for less than an 8800GT. Otherwise it's not worth it.

You know that AMD card is about the only thing I can think of that might be as long as my Johnson.

Anandtech.com has a price to performance comparison of the 3870 and the 9600. They are about the same price/performance, and the Overclocked 9600GT SSC cost about the same or more than the 3870 and has about the same performance.

Ohh and the 3870 won in more games for FPS.

And to think, it only took two 8800 Ultras to match mine.
