| Hands-On: MacBook Air Hands-on Just look at the damn picture. It beats the crap out of the XPS m1330's size... Too bad the only thing you can do on it is edit, and play Starcraft. | ||

| looks nice, i would actually think about buying one if i wasnt dead set on getting a macbook pro and installing windows on it. but the lack of almost everything kills it for me. thats why i dont really buy into the newer ultra slim form laptops that are coming out right now, just wont work for me. i could see this working for a home user though, that wont use the laptop for anything but surfing the web and playing the more simple games, quote starcraft.the next thing would be the graphics, but thats asking for a little too much ![]() | ||

You're right, that is an unbelievable price jump for a decrease in storage capacity. But I was spec'ing out a Dell Latitude for work yesterday, and they also offer the 64GB SSD -- a mere $1040 upgrade over the standard 80GB drive! Sure, the MacBook Air is ultra ultra portable, but who carries around a bare notebook? More likely the owner will throw it in a laptop bag complete with charger, mouse, external optical drive, books, etc., and sling the whole 25lb bag over their shoulder. Nah, like a lot of Apple products, the selling points are style, status, and innovation; and shame on PC makers for always playing catch up. Hey, have you heard about the new Gateway laptop? Me neither, because who cares -- they're utilitarian, not innovative. (Of course, I'd actually buy a Dell or Gateway, because I'm looking for the most performance for the money, not a status symbol at Starbucks. Still, it'd be nice to see a PC maker come out with a product sexier than Apple's for a change.)

It has one USB port, you could plug a USB hub into it and then plag an external optical drive into it as well as a mouse, etc... Not what I would call very utilitarian... ![]()
