Default Damn...

This is one of those situations that you always wonder about but when it comes right down to it...could you make the same decision?

It's easy to say that you would but you'd be a liar if you said you didn't hesitate about it.

Well, desperate times do call for desperate measures.

What probably made it "easier" for him was that his arm was numb by the time he decided to cut it off.

Yeah, I honestly would have had a hard time even thinking about cutting my arm off until the fire started. Bleeding to death doesn't scare me that much, it doesn't hurt. Burning, that hurts. Fire motivates for sure.

Yea i gotta say, there would need to be something to motivate me to go that far. I really don't know what I would do.

There was a logger in British Columbia who decided to work late. Everyone else was gone when the logs shifted and crushed the crane around him. His leg was broken and trapped. He sharpened his 1-1/2" jackknife and cut his leg off, almost passing out from the first stab. Then he drags himself out of he crane, across the jumbled log pile to his pickup, and drives 40 minutes to the nearest house. He asks the man, who is playing with his daughter on the lawn, to drive him to the hospital, and relates the earlier events. The guy doesn't believe him till he opened the door and showed him his leg with the bone sticking out.

I heard a story about a logger who had his own chainsaw hit him in the neck. It severed the tendons and some bone, but his spinal cord and jugular was OK. He had to hold his head up with one hand or it would flop over. As he hiked back to his truck, he had to bend over now and then and tilt his head back to allow the blood to flow out of his lungs. He got to his truck and drove it back to town while holding his head up with one hand.
