Oh no... I just read that RV670 (HD2950's) cards are going to be single slot cards. This is very tempting to me, but also very annoying as I don't know if I should wait for a HD2950PRO or not now.

Think I'll just wait until the end of the year and get a GeForce 9800. Better to get new technology really.

Are you sure there'll be releasing a new line by the end of the year? Their meant to be doing a 8900 series. I'm thinking of getting a 2950PRO because there meant to be single slot cards, which I like.

I've heard nothing about an 8900-series lately...I presumed Nvidia had canned it because ATi were so slow bringing a DX10 GPU to market. 9800 is slated for november:

Rumour control: Nvidia G92 to launch in November | News | Custom PC

Also, an interesting article on the 2950:

Rumour control: New Radeon as fast as 2900XT, but half the price | News | Custom PC

Looks like it might be make or break for ATi

G92 is 8800GT not a new high end part... and thats due on the 12 November.
VR-Zone : Technology Beats - Nvidia G92 is GeForce 8800 GT
Also RV670 is just a die shrink of R600... Theres nothing else different. Which is also due mid November.

Hmmm...didn't realise that, thanks for the heads-up. The lack of a new line from nvidia is disappointing, but at least it means they're giving ATi a chance. I might go for two 2900s then, but I worry about the performance limitation of my second PCI-E slot - it's only 4x. Custom PC did a test with the Asus Blitz and found out that adding an extra four lanes (giving 8 total) gives around 13% better performance, so imagine what 16 full lanes would do.

At the end of the day, it's probably down to Crysis, presuming it's a decent game. If I can't run it at high settings with a little AA and AF @ 1680x1050, I'm getting new graphics card(s).

I'm getting a G0-Q6600 tomorrow, I want 3.6ghz everyday stable! Crysis needs as many frames as possible, it is not being CPU-limited. Now I need to find someone to sell my pristine B3 to.

Thats my main thing that I'm waiting for. I want max performance from it, on my 1440x900 monitor. I don't think you need to worry about it being good though.

Well im pleased to report that Crysis (the third Beta anyway...) runs fine on an 8800GTS 320Mb at 1680x1050.

Was playing happily at between 25-35 fps yesterday, with all settings on high (no AA though).

Hopefully they're working on lots of optimisations and nVidia are hopefully at work tweaking their drivers.

They better do; everytime I play it it's fine for about five minutes and then if I go into certain areas I get about one frame a second, and I have to give up. Crashed my entire PC last night, had reboot. Graphics are nice though, but I want to see destructable trees!
