| Until recently, the only common three-core chip was the Xbox 360's CPU, but AMD is to change all of that in early 2008 when they launch their 3-core Phenom chips. Considering four cores are hardly essential yet, AMD can take the GPU approach with these new processors and save money by disabling one of Barcelona's cores or selling the processors with faulty fourth cores instead of having to throw them out. It's a good idea - one wonders why it has not been proposed before. AMD announces triple core CPUs | News | Custom PC | ||

| triple core just sounds weird. everything in the computer world seems to run in mutiples... ie 1,2,4,8,16,32,64 and so on... i dont see how 3 cores will be better then 4 cores... programs are now just being written for dual core (at least in the "home" section of computing) but before i spout off to much i should read up on the technology =) | ||

| tri-core could be the new entry level chip for OC'rs and the like. I think it is smart move, depending where AMD puts the price point.... Plus if there just disabled 4th core's then there maybe a way to enable that 4th core.... Ala' 9800se --> 9800XT softmod, remember that? | ||

A bit c0cky.... I think it could work, I'd be the guy with tri-core, long after everyone jumped to octo-core.....

They didn't say it would be better than quad core, but it will be better than dual-core I think it's a brilliant idea to increase yields...kudos to AMD and I hope it works well...as far as Intel is concerned, well we all remember what they said to AMD regarding the whole x64 extensions thing... Someone refresh my memory...who won that battle? ![]() Last edited by Joose; 19-September-07 at 12:56 PM.

Now, if we could get this cheaper than Intels Quad Core, Then We have a winna! But that would SO Kick Ass. Leave it to AMD to leave easter eggs in their procs ![]()
