Default Barcelona Pricing Announced

*Semi-Official*
Link

Quote:
AMD’s two-way capable quad-core Opteron 2300 series launch with five new models – 2350, 2347, 2347 HE, 2346 HE and 2344 HE. Pricing for the two-way capable models start at around $206 and go up as high as $372. Quad-core Opteron 2300 HE models command an approximate $60 premium over standard models, clock for clock.
On the multi-way side of things, AMD has four quad-core Opteron 8300 models ready for launch – the 8350, 8347, 8347 HE and 8346 HE. The multi-way models have a $688 cost-of-entry and top out at around $1,000. Unlike the Opteron 2300 series, the 8300 series HE models command an approximate $110 price premium.
Expect AMD to launch its new Barcelona quad-core Opteron 8300 and 2300 processors later this month for server and workstation markets. Desktop users will have to wait until Q4Â’07 for AMDÂ’s Phenom to experience quad-core.

Charts wouldn't copy correctly for some reason so you'll have to follow the link to see the full pricing list. I believe that the NDA is supposed to be lifted this Monday so hopefully we'll see official benchmarks of it.

It may not be a graphics card post but I'm still jumping up and down in excitement.

$206... sweet. That all I have to say about it. Aslong as they clock and compete well I'm there. They could do with some extra MHz's though.

PS this is a late edit but Athlon64 X2's are really rubbish compared to Core 2 Duo's (I know everyone knew that but I thought I would clarify). I tried using one for about 2 weeks, but I've gone back to Core 2 Duo now. Still looking forward to Phenom though.

I'm drooling over seeing 16 cores on a SQL server or in my ESX box

I'll definitely push the 83xx in the next DL585 I order!!!

From what I've gathered the Barcelona processor preforms much better once it's past 2.4GHz. Apparently the higher clock speed allows the rest of the chip to prefrom much more efficently and prefromance becomes slightly better than a similarly clocked Core 2. Below 2.4GHz it's preformance is slightly slower per clock. Unfortunatly since it's fairly easy to get a Core 2 to 3+GHz Barcelona doesn't look as competative as the clock speed does not scale as well.

Oh and the NDA is being lifted Monday so look foward to the reveiws.
