Default Painting the interior

Ok, I have the Thermaltake Armor Case, being so big, there is a good amount of space that doesnt go with my motherboard color (black and red). I want to Paint the interior to match. What would i need? Would just a can of spray paint do the trick? or is there something else that would give it a nice finish?

I would sand the inside..pay particular attention to the corners! usually something in the area of 320-400 grit works best.

You can use a "Scuff" pad for those hard to reach places...Scotch-brite pads is one brand, they come in fine medium and coarse..mediom should work.

A thin coat of primer is good too, and then sand that with some 400 grit...make sure you clean it well after words before your add the color coat...don't want any nasty dust to ruin the finish (You can blow it out with compressed air, and wipe it down with a rag and some paint thinner...prep sol is best though.

If the aluminumn has been "Anodized" or has a clear coat...then you should remove it first for best adhesion...there are chemichals to do that you can get at an automotive paint suplly store..or just use oven cleaner, but make sure you give it a thorough washing to remove an residue, and tape up anything that you don't want to get it on..it will leak out of the cracks in the corners to the outside!

Spray cans can give a good finish...as long as you use multiple thin coats, let it dry a bit between and don't get crazy with it or it will run, a nice clear coat will add protection and extra gloss.

A long as you don't use red for the whole thing!

I dunno why..but that never looked good to me

Black is good..makes other things stand out..check out the case gallery and see if something there inspires ya!

But look at how many Ferrari's are sold a year. Looking at the numbers it isn't working to well for them. I mean even Ford sells more vehicles a year.

Okay, maybe comparing this case to a Ferrari was a bit of a stretch....

LOL@Coel...

Ok, here is what I am talking about....

Even discounting the poor shade of red, and the orange peel (I have seen a few in Ferrrari red too, and it isn't any better!) and the cheezy stickers...for some reason it just looks like ass to me
That's definately an example of how NOT to mod a case...

Oh..and when I was doing a search for "Red Interior" I came across this thread from 2002, featuring BA's famous whiplash style comments, with appearances by Coel...and even Wixx!
http://forums.pcapex.com/case_moddin...t=red+interior

Talk about a trip in the way-back machine!

Fu3lman took there advice, and it came out pretty decent at the end...

I had no idea you guys used to use red tail lights for interior lighting back in the day...pretty innovative for low buck modding!

Oh..and check out the "Chrome Molding" on the network card....I love the old days when people used "Creativity" to do there mods, and not just ordering everything from a website

Interestingly, earlier today before I saw this thread, somehow I found a link on Wikipedia on the definition of Case Modding:

Case modding - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Check the last sentences in the History paragraph, it couldn't be more true, and reiterates what you just said:

"...since case modding, or now that the term is quite established casemodding, has been commercialized, many casemodders say that it isn't casemodding if you buy it. You have to make it yourself."

I guess that's why it's so hard for the "buy-from-a-modding-store" modders to accept a few flames from the old school modders because they can't imagine the planning, effort and imagination that was needed to make a plain beige box look great, unique and perform better--without having a hundred etailers to choose from, selling ready-to-slap-in modding goodies. If anything, the commercialization of modding has only made the majority of people following the trend more lazy. That's why we see so many generic cases that all look alike in the Gallery. Modding has become a lot more mainstream, but ironically, true modders exemplifying the above quote are just as uncommon as always...
