Ok, so I know that you have to sand whatever your painting before you paint it, but I have 2 questions. Is there a certain tecnique to sanding, and what is wetsanding (is it just getting reg sandpaper wet, or do you need special paper)

Wet Sanding - Very fine, usually black sand paper in the 2000 grit range. This link is a short explanation of it. I wet sand nearly everything just because I tend to eat away too much or screw up the surface with heavier grit. Tequnique.........to each his own. Depends on the project. Usually small circular motions, but remember, unless your carving or cutting down thick layers of paint, let the sandpaper do the work. Don't apply too much pressure. I'm a novice but have learned lots from the forums. There are some really great guides in here except that some tend to go all the way! I'm too impatient for that. Spend a little and get it done. So the pro tips these guys give you is to your own schedule and wallet.

Typically, you want to sand in one direction although sometimes the piece your working on does not allow that.

Wet sanding is simply keeping your work wet while sanding. This does two things, first it allows for a more smoother finish and secondly it minimizes the clogging of your sandpaper. For color sanding, I use a bucket of warm water with a couple drops of dishsoap to serve as a lubricant. Just use a a sponge, dip it into the bucket of water and squeeze the water on to the piece while your sanding. Use 1000 or 1200 grit sandpaper with a sanding block while doing this and light pressure.
