| Apex Techie Wannabe | Well, I'm totally new to this whole modding scene, but I just bought a mac tv, and I don't have the black keyboard and mice, but I have the tan color ones. So I wanted to paint my set black to go along with the computer better. My question is, what paint do I use, because one time when I painted this computer plastic, even after sanding the paint had a horrible texture, that was sticky, I would like to use a paint that would keep the origional texture if at all possible. Also, what prep steps would I have to take? | |

| What would the "Original Texture" be? I've painted several mice and one keyboard. I use Krylon spray paint and clear coat. I painted the mouse and keyboard with the Krylon, wet sanded and painted again. Polish it out with Mother's Plastic Polish and then apply 3 clear coats and polish out with Mothers again. So far, about two months, it's held up perfectly. I usually do my polishing about an hour after applying the second coat of paint and within an hour of applying the clear. It's hard enough that it won't come off, but soft enough to polish out like glass. I let it set overnight and polish one more time. Just make sure that the paint can is well shaken and warmed to about 85F. Also, don't use spray paint cans that are anywhere near empty. Causes splatter. (Edit) Preps - Wet sand the plastic with very, very fine wet/dry paper and wipe down with alcohol and make sure it's dry. Handle it with gloves, not your bare fingers. Most will disagree with me not priming. I prime with my first coat and then wet sand it. Oh Yeah! Welcome to PC Apex! Last edited by unit505; 20-August-06 at 11:21 PM.. | ||

| I don't think your going to get that original texture unless you were able to thin it out realy, realy, thin! There have been some guides in here about using plastic dye and such. I wish I could help, but that is my only suggestion. Plastic dye or maybe vinyl dye. Good luck! | ||

| You should take a look around on the forum about painting and what you'll need. For, plastic, i've used vinyl dye. It's in a spray can just like any paint. In comes in different colors, ones that i know of are white and black lol. So, you painting it black would work out with vinyl dye. No sanding either, just follow the directions on the can and make sure the surface is free of oils etc...or else you'll end up with odd little blobs of the underlying color. It's at auto places. | ||
