| This isn't really much of a contest, but I am out of cases and I have some color and airbrush combinations I want to spray. The last time I got bored, I painted a case and sold it on eBay, but it went to a stranger. This time I want to paint a case for one of the "family". Anyone of the regulars need a case painted? Sorry no0bs....no need to apply, not that there is no love, but I dont know you. The catch is, it's up to me, the color, the airbrush work, all of it. Not to worry small children won't cry when they look at it. If anyone needs a case painted tell me what games, if any, that you play. I will take care of the rest. I gaurantee it to be very flat and very, very, shiny. If you want to get rid of that boring case let me know, I WANNA PAINT!....oh yeah and it is FREE!!!!!, I sometimes feel that I don't do enough here at PR, so it is payback time. I can only paint one of your cases, because it takes me about $60 in materials and about eight hours to do what I have in mind. It will be one of a kind. If the case you want painted, is the one you are using now, just drill out the rivets that hold the panels and send the faces. Personally, I want to paint the inside also, cages and so on, but I understand if you don't want your machine down. * wiping hands and turning on the mixing rack, walking towards the paint booth * Let's get busy, it doesn't get any easier. | ||

| Dude, that kicks ass. I got a case I would love to send you, but I think Scapegoat is more in need than I. His Foxconn is like a giant billboard waiting for a message. But if you ever decide to do another, I will cover the material for you. Got an old Antec that could also use some lovin'. | ||

| Insomniac, you contribute PLENTY to this site. You don't need to post like crazy answering paint questions all the time, because you've written up those very in-depth articles. When someone comes along and asks a new paint-related question (not covered in your articles), you almost always step in right away. Of course, I love your idea all the same! I've been thinking about commissioning you to paint the Hot-Rod case once I'm done modding it (that's on a back-burner now) but that'll have to be done in a burgundy w/black trim. When finances are better, I'd pay for the materials. An idea for the future, anyway. I want to get my existing project done first, and see what waves it makes on our site. It's not something as useful or even humorous like Wixx's Caffeine masterpiece, but in it's own way, it's just as unique...and, started out life as a cheap-ass $25 case, to boot. | ||

| Insom, I love your idea. And nobody here at PR (that has their head on straight) fails to recognize your contributions and devotion to this community. I have had a desire to put together a group built PR LAN box. A machine that is put together and setup by a group of the regs with gear contributed by the membership and given to one of our members. DW is unsure of our ability to be able to put one together, but I have a lot of faith. I recieved a quote the other day on a case with some of the basic "barebones" components. Here are the details: Qty Item # Description Unit Price -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lan Gear Case/Power/CPU Heat Sink/Strap/AGP Riser 235.00 1 R-20-9512-4 14" 1.5U ALU Ex1Slim CD/1S/In1S 1 R-99-9999-9 Carrying Strap 1 R-21-1170-0 Open Frame 170W for 1U ALU 1 R-98-0000-1 CPU Heatsink for P4 1.5U Case 1 R-99-9999-9 AGP Riser Card for Lan Gear ES The Heatsink would only be needed if we don't water-cool it. The system will take an ATX or MicroATX mobo, CPU, RAM, AGP on the riser card, and a 3 1/2" HD. A floppy and half-height CDROM can also be ordered for a $325.00 total but we can probably beat that seperately. If you remember that this is for a LAN box then on-board sound and LAN would be perfect, the HD can be smaller, but fast would be great. The flip-side is that we don't have to give away everything for a complete systems, just put together all the basics of a True PR Classic. The case with all the special components and modded with loving care. This is something I would love to see done some day. What do the rest of you think ? | ||

| Insom, that is one heck of an offer and totally generous of you...! I would love nothing else better, but I feel there are others that should be more deserving of your generous offer first. Thank you for all that you contribute to PR, your one of the reasons this place is so great ![]() LC, I like the idea of a PR based machine, conceived and built by PR regs.. Kinda like a icon of machines if you will ![]() | ||

| while i do think it would be a great idea i hve to agree with BA. do ou think all the hardware nuts (being most of you) would be able to agree on the parts? and who would get to have it if everyone put money into it? the only 2 ideas i can come oup with for the latter would be that one of the mods (preferably GK) would keep it or it gets handed out as a prize for some contest, but i can't think of a fitting contest that would be fair for everyone... perhaps whoever donates the most money to it or something like that, but i dunno... i know.. make it a "most i need of a pimped out rig" contest like they have on the radio for concert tix some times.. "tell me why you need these tickets more then the last guy" LOL.. if nothing else we'll get some great stories made up :p | ||

| GOd......an insomniac original painted case? that is almost too good to be true!i have an antec with a quad side window cut in the side that i would be honored to have you bestow your magic upon. I used your guide for the paint job I gave it but to be honest, after it sitting on my desk for a couple months, its starting to look rather crappy. Im noticing rough spots, splotches in the clear coat, over-spray etc. It is fine for my uses but lacks an artist's touch. keep me in mind. wow, what an offer! p.s. Games i play....im pretty much addicted to BF1942 now... other than a game theme, i was really wanting to have some kind of lightning theme, storm, clouds, lightning, etc. lots of potential.....i would be honored to have you work on my sheet-metal. keep me in mind, even though i havent been here forever...thanks! *another edit* I would be more than willing to toss all the hardware into another case and send you the whole thing, rails, fan holders, drive cages.......im still stunned you would do this! | I personally think it should be advertised as a contest with the intent of bringing more traffic to PR. Show everyone what kind of cool **** PR regs come up with. I know im new around here but id love to contribute my 2 cents, I plan on bein here for awhile. And Insom, thats very cool of you. Its very indicative of the kind of community here at PR. I really like how you guys help each other out instead of constantly trying to berate each other (Ok maybe you piss on some n00bs but thats to be expected, I mean, you gotta piss somewhere, right?) | ||

| Haha yeah those were great! Jim rocks! And no I dont work at 2cpu.com I just advertise my support for them, they are a great bunch of guys and my greatest resource for everything storage/database/SMP/alternate OS related. I am a SMP nut, only have 2 SMP rigs now, a dual pentium 3 450 and a dual athlon 1900 mp, but i'm getting there! here is an excerpt from the site posted by Jim "...I'll be delving into some alternative operating system-related content. MalHavoc and I will be taking a look at Apache and MySQL performance in Linux, FreeBSD and Win32 on both the Athlon MP and P4 Xeon platforms. Among other things..." How many tech sites out there do these kinds of reviews? Last edited by abyssling; 11-September-02 at 03:08 PM.. | ||

| wow, i cant stay away from this thread, im like checking it every 20 minutes, and the possibility of Insomniac himself painting my case is too much to handle! I am picturing something with like my name in lightning.....or flames......ack, i cant stand it! im just pumping myself up over nothing, i prolly wont "win" but either way, i cant wait to see what he does with the "winner" wow, im excited! to give you some clue as to what im thinking, i imagine this honor to be the same as having Bill Gates personally installing a super secret version of the next great OS........or having John Caramack configuring your computer for DOOM 3. sick man, just sick! | ||

| LC, what a great idea!! Hell 'ya count me int I will help and donate time or whatever I can do to help with the "lan project". BZA, easy, laying it on a little thick . I am just going over this thread and thinking back to who is in the most need and who is eager to help, tough choice, I will probably narrow it down and draw numbers. Thanks for the positive comments.
