| Can anyone point me in the direction of some good chrome paint? I want to totally canvass the exterior of a full tower case for an upcoming project. Any suggestions for painting technique? (somehow i think i wont be finding any aerosol cans of chrome paint, and I just dont think a brush will work for a smooth finish, please pleasecorrect me if im wrong) | ||

| If you are looking for something a little less expensive but still pretty high quality, Krylon makes a chrome, areosol. Original Chrome i belive is the color, . Krylon As for painting techniques, look through Insomniacs Paint Shop up in the sections menu, he is that master at painting EDIT- its gonna run you about 5$ a can, and you should be able to pick it up at any home depot | ||

| This may be way beyond what abyssling wants, but instead of painting a case chrome, I would swap the exterior out with cut to fit mirrors. Reflective effects don't get better than that. Seen a couple mods done like that and they were "OK". Would like to see someone go extreme with it. By extreme I mean scraping the back off into a pattern or logo and lighting the hell out of that bitch. Possibly using mirrors on the inside also. The possibilities are infinite. | ||

| Oh man, the mirror thing would be really cool. Im getting some crazy ideas. I just dont know if im capable of implementing them =D Thanks a whole bunch. I think Ill take a visit to home depot this week and see what I can come up with. OMFG if I can pull this off it will be the shiniest brightest most frickin annoying case youve ever laid your eyes upon | ||

| if you do make the case itself out of mirrors then i would recommend going to a good glass place. they can bevel the mirrors for you nicely so they fit perfectly and they have no sharp edges. even if you just got the top one like that and made it go to the outside or each side one, that should work too. but i would also bevel the bottom, front and back of the sides so there are no exposed sharp edges... would suck to pick up your case, cut youreself and drop it on the floor, thus shattering a badass (and rather expensive) case... | ||

| I should give some warnings about using the Krylon "Original Chrome" paint. It looks great but it has many disadvantages too. It doesn't adhere very well to acrylic, at least. Once it's painted on, it remains very sensitive to pressure/touch, even when fully dry. Just flipping over a painted surface onto a soft cloth, then gently wet-sanding the reverse side, caused imprints of the cloth's texture to be pressed into the painted side. I dunno how many times I re-wet-sanded the primary painted side, and each time it would look great after painting...only to have a gentle touch mar the surface. It seems a lot more durable on steel/plastic. Even still, beware the following: it is bad for showing even the slightest scratches or other surface glitches it's painted over; so that means you gotta sand that sucker to perfection before using Original Chrome. Lastly, you can't protect your finish with a clear-coat. This is probably the worst downfall of this product. It is relatively fragile but you cannot clear-coat it for scratch protection! When you clear-coat it, it seems to cause the chrome metallic "particles" to rise out or...how do you describe it...separate from the silver paint...and sag in areas. It's great for 1 or 2 coats on small plastic parts you won't be touching a lot, but...I would highly recommend NOT using it for an entire case. | ||

| Thanks, I think im gonna use a combination of chrome paint and mirrors on this one. Gonna scrap an ALUMINUM case (even if it is a cheap directron SF201-1 case - $109.00) for this project /sigh i dont see any other way as heavy as that glass is gonna be, besides it will leave me with lots of scrap aluminum for my NEXT project muahahaha | ||

That's what you call "cheap"? Heh, $109 U.S. dollars is pretty expensive where I come from! My idea of "cheap" is under $40 Canadian (say, $25 U.S.)!!

I guess those cases just ain't that cool, tdigweed. We'll have to see what abyssling comes up with, eh?BTW, I like the first case with the sliding front panel. The second one needs something done with the front bezel in a bad way. Beige and mirrors don't make good companions. tdigweed, are you a vain sorta guy? I bet you spend HOURS gazing at your reflection, fluffing your hair, right? ![]()
