Question Processor Fan Painting?

I was wondering. Is it a bad idea to remove the processor fan and take it apart to paint it chrome. Will that affect the RPMs? Or will it work just fine? I don't wanna mess up anything. But I am truly looking forward to doing it, if it is possible. Thoughts, Questions, Concerns. Let me know.

I don't see why not. Just give it plenty of time to cure and make sure it has good adhesion (Might try the old knive test). You don't want little pieces of paint flyin all over the place, but then again you don't want that anywhere. Give it a decent sanding and spray it, should do the trick fine. Tell us how it turns out.

Thanks for the advise, I will get to it as soon as I get my computer in complete working order. Then, I will rip it apart and start spraying. LOL.

Yup as soon as it's in great working condition, just tear it apart and void some warranties. THAT's modding!

I personally wouldn't... Paint adds weight and it will prematurely wear out, but by that time you may have bought another PC anyways

Yea paint does add wait, but if he keeps the layers thin (And you shouldn't need to many), he should be fine. I know my case got a lot heavier after adding paint (Or was it the 400W PSU )

No, no, no. If you want everything to look good, you have to leave all the components in and then paint the inside. Then it will be color coordinated. Something with metallic flake would be nice.

How about spray painting the fans while they are in operation?

That would have an original look. Use the invisible UV paint so it would only show up under black light...hehe OK dumass Idea, but a fellows has to think non linear

An even better effect would be to mix UV with Stucco and spray it in while running. The end result would be a piece of art that you could show all your friends.

I have enough old comps around here I may just do it to see the effect. Would probably look pretty cool.

EDIT: Your avatar is still scary. You said he was a superhero. He still looks like the freaky dudes I stayed away from when I was stationed in Frankfurt.

Yea.... I prefer not to paint the silicon boards with metaflake... Don't know why though... You guys are a little over the top to me, I think maybe I have lost my edge though. But then again, a month ago I wouldn't have had enough balls to rip apart my processor fan and mod away, now I am bored with plain ol' black, and I need a change. Funny how that works. Oh, I just came up with the Pimpedist idea ever, if I ever get it to work, I'll send over a photo... PEace.

Let me guess your idea....A WINDOW! Wow, that would kick ass if you could actually see inside a PC. I'm sure whatever you've planned has been done, several times. If you have something original, PM me and I'll assist you with it, this is public record now so no, I won't steal your idea.

Even better: for added fun and to 'add' to your viewing pleasure, apply spray paint directly on exhaust fans while they're in operation. Don't forget to remove your safety goggles first!

ROLFLMAO That's as good as BA's "Metaflake" paint job!

BA, you're actually old enough to have fought the Nazis?

Wow I appreciate the vote of confidence you have in the new guys, and the extreme mount of sarcasm you sent my way! Thanks a bunch! Well, I (think) I do have something new... and no I will not be PMing you. I like to do things on my own... Kind of a DIY guy myself. I learn a lot when I do it that way too. Not to say that I haven't learned an extreme amount about modding from you all, but I think that I do have something that I wanna run with... You'll see it when its done then you can critize :-P Til, then don't give people $#*T til you have a reason to.

Hehe! Don't worry 'bout it, Kleiner. Every so often, when the barometer falls and a thunderstorm is imminent, BA's creaky ole joints get sore and he gets cranky. Then we give him his apple-sauce and he's happy.
