Default Plastic primer - Project Countess

I found at Home depot a primer for plastic. It's similar to that Fusion paint but let's you use whatever paint you want on top of it. It's supposed to provide superior bonding of paint to plastic.

Has anyone used it? I"m going to paint up a laptop for my Mom but Fusion doesn't have any colors I like.

The prep is easy. Just clean the plastic off with an ammonia-based cleaner or solution. Let dry then apply a thin coat of primer for plastic. Let dry then paint with your paint.

I'm wondering how durable this primer is.

Thanks.

Well... up to now I've used Dupli Color Plastic Primer... followed by a few layers of Dupli Color
Acrylic, followed by some Dupli Color Clear Coat, also Acrylic...

While this provides a nice glossy look (after proper sanding, buffing & polishing)... you STILL run the
risk of 'chipping off some paint...

Which is a PAIN to correct... so... In future I rather DYE than PAINT,,,,

Even if that restricts my choices...

Good to know I have to use that for a old case that I need to paint.

You dont have to buffer to get a nice gloss. Just focus on sanding correctly and you'll end up with a high gloss. Use rubbing compound after clear coat (your work is made off in gold) and you'll get a very nice shine.

I really need to get my hands on some 1500 or even 2000 grit wet/dry.... The only thing I've seen
in shops here is like 1200... Thanks for the input!

Nope... I live in the NL, Europe... no Wallmarts here... (I wish!). I think I'll try to order some of that 3M
paper at the local automotive store. I'd rather sand than buff, really.... Thanks for the input Nerdz!

I have plans to paint my case (currently red and black - I want it all black with some 'blue lightning') and I am going to use Model paints on the 'plastic' parts and automotive paint for the 'metal' parts (if I could afford it I'd have the 'frame and cages' anodized, but that's a bit out of my budget.
