Default Plastic painting gone wrong O_o;;;

Ok just bare in mind I didn't read this before I started painting, but I sanded it down (the item I was painting) the sprayed it and sanded and sprayed and sanded and sprayed 3 times, now the problem is at the end it's dryed all like streky, almost likes it's run down as if someone had just let the paint roll off it, however it didn't look like this when I put the coats on and it didn't run so any ideas what might have happened? I'm using plasti kote, and I'm just painting my mic as a starting point, of moding =P, someone suggested using plastic dye that is used for car parts, anyone else had an experiance like this? Also now its dry when I put my hand on it, it feels stiky even though it's fully dry...wierd O_o;;;

i would have used thinner coats. thats all the problem was. i do many thin coats instead of two or three coats, and when i say many i do like 10 - 15 - 20 depending one what im trying to paint. plastic dye is good but its its just platic then use fusion, works wonders. ive been using it FOREVER and i havent had anything chip or peel with it.

Did you set down a good base with some primer? I find it usually helps prevent reactions between the color coat and certain plastics. If it still feels sticky, it's not dry..... could be too humid or a reaction between the plastic and the paint.

well maybe
depending on the cost for shipping, the can of paints only like a couple bucks. USD.

Ummm yeah but like when the stuff nearly runs out after painting a small mic it gets expensive stuff for a project, and don't forget with this plastic kote stuff if you want primer you forced to buy a can that is 400ml for £8 aprx $12 then gloss spray is the same plus add on top of that at least two or three cans of 100ml, and it you want a metal primer you have to buy another 400ml can then if you want a metal gloss spray thats another 400ml can so it add's up fast =P

Your problem is most likely a adverse reaction between paint and plastic. It's not uncommon with thinner based paints and vinyls. U.S. laws prevent air shipments of aerosols, so you can't get it that way. You have two choices. Vinyl dye or primer. I'm sure either is available locally where you're at if you look around. Vinyl dye you can get at home improvement or car supply places. A good primer for plastics is Coverite or ask the guys at the local hobby shop for advice.

If you emptied an entire can of paint on one "little mic" you're using way too much paint.

Ok for that maybe about half a can, but I have to put it on layer after layer other wise it chips like hell even with gloss on it =/, Also could someone explain how you use this vinyl dye? As I have this mental image of soaking it in a bowl with blue liquid in it stiring it around with old wooden tongs and hanging it on the washing line to dry =P....don't even ask me why I'm thinking that =P
