Question Paint for plastics: monitor and case front panel

Hello guys,

I have been reading threads in this forum for a while, and decided its time to join this great forum !

Well here are my questions:

1. I am painting my beige monitor (Black and slilver/grey). I have found
KrylonFusion's black paint to be great, but I donno what to use for the
grey/silver parts as there no such color offered by KrylonFusion ...

I am looking for a paint that is like Krylon; no sanding, and works good on
plastic ... I am OK with priming, but wanna avoid it cause it makes painted
part look thicker than other parts painted with Fusion ....

What brand/type do you suggest (something I can get in regular stores
like WalMart or HomeDepot) ???

2. As for second Q, I am looking for paint for painting my case's front panel.
The front panel is hard plastic (like every other case), and it already is
grey (factory/original color), it isnt beige/uncolored.
Also, some parts of it has been modded and bondo has been used.

I dont think I can use KrylonFusion, as it is already colored, and it has
bondo on it.

Again looking for a paint that works for this purpose. Just wanna paint it
simple and flat; maybe some sanding to make it nice and flat.

I have access to KrylonFusion, regular Krylon, Dupli, and other spray paint found in Wal-Mart, HomeDepot and other hardware stores.

Thanks

I use cheap $0.99 Wally World paint for everything. Used flat black on a monitor, glossy black on another monitor and flat black on a case and no problems. I'd probably just go for that stuff.

If your REALLY concerned about the paint flaking off the plastic go to OReillys (AutoZone might have something similar) and get Bulldog Adhesion Promoter. This stuff sparys on before your paint and allows for a better bond to plastics - ifts cheap and comes in a spray can. This is what my friend uses before he paints plastic bumper covers and such on cars - should work great.

Are you supposed to let the adhesion promoter dry first before painting over it?

I dont have a can in front of me but I believe you give it like 10 or 15 mins and it just get tacky, then you shoot the color over the top of it. The adhesion promoter is clear so there not a big overspray issue. Its very simple to use.

AK is right the Bulldog Adhesion promoter is good stuff, we use it in Our paint shop on bumpers and such, if it lets paint stay on a bumper at 120 KPH, then it will stay on a computer

Painting plastic is easy - just prepare properly , prime, then paint (assuming non-reactive paint)

I've painted plastic dozens of times and have yet to have the paint flake off or separate from the plastic.

Well I didnt need to prime with Krylon FUSION for my monitor (the black parts) ...

but I guess I gotta do it for the front panel that is bondo-ed.

thx

You could also look into vinyl dye for your plastic parts.

OK I do not understand wut vinyl dye is: is that the stuff found in the auto paint used for car plastic parts ?? .. I have seen some for bumpers and some for seats ?

I thought those things didnt work for my purposes.

For painting plastic I just sand, clean, prime, and paint. Never had any flaking at all.

How would you go about painting a monitor? With all the air holes and stuff in the back and on the top, wouldn't the paint get in there and damage it all?

No, you would take all the casing off and paint it then. My ? is about my ball joint swivel.
