| I am in need of a good recommendation for a white color and a black/gray color for my own The Wall themed case mod. I am thinking some kind of a white pearl color maybe and a not quite black for the mortar lines. It will be clearcoated as well so I am basically looking for suggestions on particular colors and brands. Keep in mind that it is summertime here in Iowa and is pretty humid so I need something that is not quite as susceptible to that as higher quality paints. | ||

| Are you looking for an automotive brand/system recommendation or a rattle can recommendation? I custom mix my pearls - But if you're looking for an off-the-shelf match - There are a few that are particularly nice - like Ford Wimbledon White - readily available and white as the day is long (although its not a true Pearl color - not sure if you wanted just a white, or wanted the pearl effect). E-mail me off the board and I'd be happy to make a more lengthy recommendation. David | ||

| Most bomb-can white pearls arent that pearly. It is hard to get a white pearl in a single stage paint as the white itself has to be pretty opaque and it usually hides all on the pearl micas in the mix. Your best, if you want pearl white is to go with a base/clear automotive finish with a midcoat pearl or just a plain white if you want to use bomb can. I tell ya what though. I will paint your case in pearl white base/clear for that laser and PSU,and you pay to ship it. Then you can commence with the rest, that is if it really must be pearl. You will want to do all the cutting and stuff beforehand obviously. | ||

| Cadillac has a nice mid-coat (3-stage) whiteish pearl...as does Lincoln....I don't have the color chips, but a local supplier could give you the exact name and formulation. But, they tend to look more goldish...again not sure if this is the color you are going after, or just a nice, glossy, white. David | ||

| Thanks for the offer Luna, but I want to do this whole thing myself (I am sure you can understand there) but I am sure we will find a way to get you that laser (puts on thinking cap). Here is a picture if it will help on the color recommendations...... the color is a kind of off-white it seems. And thanks dgroth for the recommendations thus far. | ||

The Cadillac pearl white actually can be mixed in several alternates. Some have a goldish tint and some have a brighter white tint. They are actually the same paint code, just several alternates. It depends on where it was painted. Lincoln pearl white is basically the same issue only I have had more luck with it matching than with Cadillac codes. BTW, godfoot, thats cool, I totally understand. BUT, if you do want to paint your case with auto paint, and you have or have access to the tools, I will trade you the materials to do so for the laser. White base, pearl midcoat, and enough clear for 4-6 coats with catalyst for that amount. 4-6 coats meaning 2 coats after pearl midcoat,do your artwork then another 2 coats, then maybe some more artwork and another 2 coats, or wet sand them down and spray the other 2 coats for the ultimate in smoothness. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| As much as I would love to use automotive paints, I currently do not have the equipment or the know-how for it so I plan to use rattle cans with a pistol grip adapter. This case is too big to be able to afford the Modeling paint I want to use (Testors Model Master - Light Ivory) so I am basically looking for recommendations that can be purchased from most hardware or automotive stores. Edit: I have no problem trading you the laser for the Megadeths stuff along with Nuendo that you had mentioned before, I just need to be able to afford the shipping on it w/ the PSU after paying all my bills ![]() Maybe I can send one unit at a time. | ||

| I given this suggestion to others as well. If you want the look of the automotive paints go to your local larger auto paint supply store. They have tons of books with paint chips and codes. Once you pic the color they can put it in a spray can for you, even do a three stage. I'm dating a paint match/mixer girl at the paint store I use and she can do just about anything. Just find one who is reputable. I see the ivory white type that your going for, its in one of my motorcycle paint books, think its a harley bone ivory pearl. I'll have to look. But just spend a half an hour in a supply store and I think you'll find it. | ||

| Etiquette & English Gentleman | Looks very much like "Old English White" (I had a Mini that colour) ... I'm not sure that'll help though, I doubt if there are enough British cars from the 60's & 70's on US roads to make it something you could get off the shelf ![]() I would have thought a generic "Ivory" would be good enough ... especially as the colouration on the cover isn't particularly consistent over various releases/formats - I've seen legitimate releases of The Wall that vary from nearly pure white to nearly old skool beige. How are you planning on putting the mortar lines on? I think masking & spraying would be a nightmare ... I'd be thinking about a really fine (like 00 fine) brush & model paints ... something like Tamiya's Acrylic mini pots (maybe F-24 Dark Grey with a 10% splash of X-18 Semi Gloss Black) ... compatability depending, of course . | |
