| First Mod and Easy Tips Decided to paint my laptop yesterday. Finally did it today. I found an easy way to get this done. I'm very happy with the results! Went to Walmart and got 320 grit sandpaper, masking tape, and spraypaint. Aside from a box cutter or Xacto and newspaper, that's all you'll need! Krylon has this new paint called Fusion that's made for plastic. I was a little skeptical, but tried it anyway. It claims no sanding or priming and dries in 15 minutes. It lives up to the label. I took one whole news paper page and put in over the keyboard area, then just closed the laptop over it. This protected the keyboard area and the front and sides. For the back, I masking taped newspaper over it making sure there was a complete seal. I also taped the gateway logo and release button on the cover and cut off the excess with a blade. After this, I just sanded the entire surface to get a smooth area to work with. From here, I just sprayed a light coat. I waited about a minute and completed the whole thing. An hour later, I sanded the top again which was a mistake. It left marks, so I had to redo it. It did result in a smoother surface, so if you want to sand in between coats, I recommend using the finest sandpaper you can find. While it was drying, I decided to take apart my mouse and paint that. After another hour, I just wiped off the surface with a wet paper towel and removed the tape from the logo and release button. Here I am 2.5 hours later and I'm using my laptop. Looks great too. By the way, the laptop was a steel grey color and got scratched so I wanted to cover it. The mouse was white and had a Logitech logo on it. Ugh...so nasty. I love it now. It looks slick. The mouse looks like a beetle or some weird bug. |
